GEMS TV (U.S.) TO GO DARK

I was flipping through the channels yesterday and they said that they announcement came early yesterday morning... They were being vague, not specifying (yet) when the final day will in fact be... but they are now selling off the store at "up to 80% off".

Wow, I wonder what happened? I purchased a couple of items from them in the past and always felt that their quality was much better than the other home shopping channels...

I will especially miss presenters Lyndsey and Marva (I can think of two BIG reasons why I will miss her, haha ;) ) ...

I assume that their operations in the UK will continue, since they were specifying it is the final days of Gems TV in the U.S. .

Another casualty of the economy, perhaps? ???

R.I.P. Gems TV. :-[

Don't you mean four? ::)

When I first saw the thread title, I thought it would be about the Spanish "Gems" network, which I do not think exists any longer...

The Hispanic targeted GEMS morphed into mun2 ("mundos".)

On my cable system Jewelry Television is one channel up from GemsTV, so similar programming just next door.

MUN2. Awesome channel. And they still show Hispanic Music Vidoes. Unlike MTV Tr3s which recently morphed into MTV dubbed into Spanish. Or with Spanish Subtitles.

We have JTV on 3 channels. Digital Channel 90 - Leased Access, Digital Channel 157, and Digital Channel, 171. Plus overnights on WRDM-CA/50. Analog Channel 13. They buy the time from ZGS owners of Channel 50.

According to a Bright House ad in the April 2 edition of the St. Petersburg Times, the last day of Gems TV is April 8 (Bright House will be replacing it that day with a similar coin and jewellry channel).

Can someone roll tape during the final hour?

Update: Last night one of the on-air presenters said that they will be leaving many cable systems on April 9th... however, they will still be available on Satellite sytems until Friday, April 16th... now, whether that would be midnight Friday 4/16 (that is, Thurs into Fri) , or Midnight Saturday April 17th (Fri into Sat) remains unclear.

So it seems that at a time yet to be determined (until their wherehouse is completely empty perhaps?), the "official" last day of Gems TV is Friday, April 16th.

Really? According to my Direct TV on screen guide today is the last day and will end at 7 PM (going by Central Time, my time zone)

Here in Houston, Comcast replaced GEMS with...drumroll please...The Liquidation Channel. No, I am not kidding...had never head of them. More shop at home stuff.

Here in (metro Atlanta,) Comcast still has GEMS TV on it's listing (with "show" titles of what is suppose to be on right now,) but when you tune into it, it's an infomercial for some kind of exercise equipment. Will check a little before 8P (Eastern) to see what appears, and what channel it is, since there are no bugs at the bottom of the screen.

8PM Update: It's now "Corner Store TV" per the promo and one bump that I saw. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corner_Store_TV It appears to be the network feed, and not the affiliate feed (for Atlanta, it would of been WANN-LD,) as there was no legal ID.

On DISH Network channel 226 this is what is on the screen as of this reply:

Thank you for your patronage during the past 3 1/2 years. You may still shop for great values for another week at www.GemsTV.com. You may also access your account by using the Customer Service Link or by calling a representative at 1-866-436-7885 through May 6, 2010 at 5:59 PM/PT.

The on-screen guide has the channel going dark at midnight tonight.

My cable system dropped Gems TV a week ago and replaced it with The Liquidation Channel. Similar format to Gems but as a whole their stuff looks inferior to the product that Gems was offering...

The "live" broadcast of Gems ended at 8pm Eastern/5pm Pacific yesterday (Thurs 4/15). I tried logging onto their website to view the stream but couldn't get on, probably due to the overwhelming amount of people on at the time... As JayR stated, they are currently running that message/loop with music on their on-air feed.

Did someone roll tape of the final moments????? ??? Searched youtube, but nothing as of yet...

I find that amazing, considering the network wasn't necessarily having big enough bandwidth issues on TV, let alone the 'Net... Maybe it was a bunch of tech geeks that swarmed the site... Either that, or an unhappy customer pulling a DDoS on them (I surely hope not)...

Not really, when you think about it. Many of their loyal cable customers/viewers were in the same boat, all having the plug pulled within the week... and many of the deals they were offering during the final days were RIDICULOUS. I'm sure once the word got out, the "curiosity factor" set in--- that is, a multitude of people who wouldn't normally shop from a network were online checking them out.

I honestly don't know how home shopping networks can survive in the Internet age.
