Gen-X radio in Philly

Do you think that one of the Philly stations will pick up the 90s based Generation-X radio format that is being launched in several markets? Just to the west, Citadel has recently changed Classic Hits "Mix 106.7" in Harrisburg to 90s hits "Channel 106.7." If you want to see their playlist, check out WMHX on www.yes.com. Maybe Ben-FM could morph into this type of station.

Is this format like Lithium that Sirius runs.. 90's Alternative and Grunge which is a great format or would we have to suffer through 90's rap, hip hop, soul and house music to get to Tonic, Nixons, Flys, S-Trees and other great 90 acts...

Thankfully it's a 90s based hit music station that also plays some Pop, Hip Hop, and Dance, rather than just a slit my wrist Grunge station.
I enjoy listening to Modern Rock, but would expect to hear a lot more than just that type of music on a station dedicated to a certain decade.

I was at Concord Mall today and 106.7 was booming in loud and clear, this is a monster signal...to carry that far...but I noticed they were calling themselves Channel 1067 not Gen-X....I did hear Brand New Lover from Dead or Alive which was a hit in 1986 not in the 90's....

gm is not going to give up on 97.5 just yet

they just started it give the station a full year before writing it off

Dont know about a station waiting a year or so if they are tanking, they can go very fast, just look at Rumba 104.5 how long did that last a few months...

I believe that Citadel isn't using the "Gen-X" branding on 106.7 because of sister active rocker 105.7 The X.

Isn't the Channel 000.0 moniker a CC trademark for their Alternative properties, just like Radio 000.0 is...there was Channel 104.3 in Baltimore and Radio 104.5 in Philly. So I would assume the new Gen-X formats would be Alternative with the Channel slogan but that is not the case with the Hersey station...

In the case of rumba, alot was invested in that station. Hiring onair staff right away, advertising, sponsoring several events. The station was given more time I think, then say if Philly's 1061 had similar numbers. Even when flip was made, they didn't kill rumba, they just moved it to the am.

With that said, you may notice that nothing has been done with 950 yet. That leads me to believe they're leaving it open to just return as 950espn.

As for a all 90's station. Sounds good to me. 80's stations were popping up everywhere 10 years ago at this time, so it makes sense. Now the nail in the 80's format I feel was everyone went with "the point" consulted format, which wasn't the 80's people grew up with, or heard on MTV, but was really just 80's rock. I think it is for this reason few 80's station survived more then 2 years, while the whole jack format which is heavy 80's has survived in many places including here.

Anyway, my point here is I hope the same mistake isn't made with the 90's format, and they focus on all the music. Not that I would mind if the boy bands of the late 90's was skipped.

As someone whose adolescent years were in the '90s, let's skip that horrible decade altogether. Once grunge came in, rock was dead. In the '90s I had to resort to classic rock to find any good music. No, the '90s should remain confined to the dumpster of history. Here's hoping the world never again hears the likes of Belly, Blind Melon, Oasis & those other horrible, whiny bands.

Unless a '90s based format was all rap. That's a different story.

Like all 70s and all 80s before it, all 90s won't survive as a format. Some station will probably give it a shot but it won't have a long shelf like.

Frankly, the music of the decade that just ended is FAR SUPERIOR to what the 90s gave us overall.

Being a teen in the 80s I always viewed New Wave as 'slit my wrist' music. I thought Grunge was more 'slit YOUR wrist' in attitude. I guess you either absolutely love or absolutely hate the music of your teen years. Personally I'd tune in the 90s but one more spin of 'Back in Black','Sweet Home Alabama' or 'Enjoy the Silence' and I'll need a new radio.

Most of the "Gen X" stations tend to dip into the latter half of the 80s as well as the early part of the 2000s.
