Gen-X Radio

How do you guys think a Gen-X radio station in philly would work? These stations play 80s and 90s hair bands, 90s grunge, 80s and 90s hip hop and 80s and 90s boy bands. I don't think any station in the city plays this.

When you look at the list of styles in the OP, you begin to see why MTV stopped playing music. I remember going to an MTV Music Awards where they had both Backstreet Boys and some gangsta rappers, and the fan bases simply didn't work well together. The people who like boy bands can't stand grunge, and vice versa. You build radio stations with consensus, and there is none with that list. The other thing I notice is that grunge has not aged well at all.

Well. I agree that boy bands does not mesh that well with Grunge Rock...but you can alter the station based on the demographics of the city. Since the classic hit stations in our area plays nothing but motown, you can substitute this by playing 80s and 90s r&b with some hair bands and maybe 1 boy band and one grunge song per hour. I think it would be interesting mix. I grew up with 80s and 90s and most of the people that I know would listen to this type of mix. It might work and might not...but a lot of the stations in the city are soo stale. It would be a nice change.
