Gen-X Transition Complete?

Looks like the transition from 90's Hits to Modern AC is complete with them now playing currents such as "Walk" by The Foo Fighters and "Pumped Up Kicks" from Foster The People... they're a little harder than Click in Dayton. Now, we wait for the "Radio" name to return.

What is the real reason Jen-X transitioned to Modern AC? One reason could be because the [email protected] signal is rumored be sold to Salem and go to conservative talk soon. The other reason posted on the board is the Jen-X ratings weren't doing very well.

I was wondering that myself. Although I think even regardless, they were planning to drop Gen X. Gen X is turning out like MOViN... a fad and only alive in certain markets. What makes them think they're going to do any better than they did the first time with this new format? At least they added currents in though so the gold doesn't play every single day. I'm willing to bet CC is going to think of some crazy name to call 1067,

And all of this proves what I've said about the music of the 90's...and beyond.

Simply put, a lot of it doesn't test.

Could that change over time? Maybe. But when you can't find 300 songs from the era that can survive a music test...

I like the 90's and I know listeners are pissed about the format change... but not as much as Louisville listeners are with their Gen X who flipped to XMAS... I suppose it works better in that market, and Gen X has better ratings there. It's a rhythmic city.

We have more 80's then anything in this market with Brew, Q, Jack, and Rewind.

There are a couple exceptions, but the Gen-X format as presented today doesn't seem to show a lot of staying power.  CC and other operators have recently dropped the format in several cities, including Seattle.  And who knows if Louisville will really have the same kind of format after Christmas? Another factor may be that Gen-X often ends up getting on a deficient signal.

The concept was okay but the programming and small playlist was pathetic. CC PD's are like monkeys throwing poop at the radio. Shoot, a deaf person could do a better job at picking songs than these bozos.

When did you hear this song? I don't think they've played it. You must have been listening to another station. The station plays the same songs that it played when it first moved to this format a few months ago.

LJO, is it possible you were listening to the web stream and heard a fill song?  Like jhc2010 said, the music mix sounds the same as it has for the past few months. At least it seems that way to me.

My guess is Gen-X is like "Movin'" it's moved onto greener pastures... With Louisvlle going all Christmas... I don't see it returning to it's previous Gen-X format after the holidays... which means any chance of Columbus going back is slim.

Pumped up Kicks did air in the midnight hour of Tuesday. It hasn't aired since.

Two new songs played this morning that don't look like they've ever been on during this current format:
Erasure - Chains Of Love (1988) played this morning during the 7 AM hour.
The Divinyls - I Touch Myself (1990) played during the 9 AM hour.

Weird. They play Walk by Foo Fighters (2011) & Pumped up Kicks by Foster the People (2011), in the middle of the night, seemingly never to be heard again. Then they start playing some older songs that are new to the format change.

Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape (w/ Akon) just played as I was typing this. It doesn't look like that song has been played since the format switch either.

It's very hard for me to listen to this much more than an hr because since they lack playing currents often, the same gold plays over and over all day. You can tell with that kind of scheduling PLUS the new "1067" imaging, this isn't going to last going into the new year. They're probably seeing how they do in the November PPM with the musical shift.

Really surprised to hear The Sweet Escape.

They were playing "I Touch Myself" long before the format tweak.  And while I don't recall for sure, "Chains of Love" sounds like something they would have played before. Or is your point that they are adding back some of their old list?

Right. It looks like they are adding back in a few songs (older ones in particular) from their old list prior to the original tweak.

Yea, I'm a little shocked they haven't evolved the playlist yet but perhaps they were waiting on 102.5's situation to play out before deciding on a format/demo direction.

Is it just me, or does the "new" Gen-X actually seem to have faster gold rotation and a smaller list than they did with old approach? To me it seems to have moved closer to the other local CC stations in that regard. I have no facts to back that up, and I'm not opining here as to whether being more repetitive is a good thing or a bad thing for that format. It's just how it sounds to me.

Another little evolution...

iHeartRadio now has it positioned as "Columbus' Pop Alternative Station". Haven't heard any on-air mentions yet...
