Gene Burns Did Not Shut The Door on Coming Back To Boston

Although I cannot imagine why anyone would want to leave KGO and San Franciso Gene Burns said today on with Egan and Braude that it would be a hard choice if an offer was made to Gene to come back to Boston.

Gene sounds great.

I wouldn't read too much into that. Gene's a smart guy and he knows that in the radio business, you should never burn bridges. Who knows, KGO could switch to all Spanish tomorrow and he might need another job. (I know it's unlikely, but stranger things have happened)

As I see it, there are a few things in Boston that could attract Burns back.

First, it's much closer to Florida then California is, and since most of his family is located in Florida, this could be a selling point.

Next, if he came back to Boston, he would probably get a daytime shift. I would think that that might be a lot more attractive then doing nights.

He would also be a big fish in a small pond. KGO has a lot of talented people working for it and Burns will always just be one of the players. In Boston he could easily be the a stations leading talent.

Then there is always money. If a station was willing to come up with sufficient cash, it would be real hard to turn down.

Just my two cents, for what it's worth,

Al

Gene Burns Also Speaks About The "Mean Spirited" Tone of Most Talk Radio Today

I totally agree. I think it is unlikely but who knows.

Gene Burns also spoke about the general "mean spirited" nature of most talk radio today. He is right on target.

There has to be a place for intelligent talk somewhere. Enough food fights on the right and to some degree on the left.

Those food fights have made most talk radio as I say, perhaps too often, a bore and predictable.

Not sure what the consequences for Jay Severin's lies will be on his career but it is just another major crack in this whole "mean spirtied" genre.

The should and must be a place for Gene Burns and people like Gene Burns on talk radio.

Hey, they are even beginning to take "junk food" out of our schools. Is it too much too hope that talk radio will do the same?

Re: Gene Burns Also Speaks About The "Mean Spirited" Tone of Most Talk Radio Today

didn't I read Severin is getting a syndicated deal with 10 stations to start? Doesn't sound like his "lies" are going to hurt him at all. I'm not a Jay fan but he's going to land on his feet.

much as I'd like to hear Gene again, it ain't gonna happen. Not with the two major talkers in this market. They want brash and controversial... to pump up the affluent alpha-males barrelling down 128 in their SUVs...

He was a telephone guest on the Pat Whitley resturant show today. Mentioned that he loved Boston and was planning on traveling here soon.
