Gene Knight + "Love Songs" Exit KYXY

From the news page here at www.radio-info.com:

Gene Knight Exits Soft Rock KYXY San Diego, Replaced by Voicetracking

CBS soft rock KYXY (96.5) San Diego night jock Gene Knight has exited the station, due to dreaded “budgetary concerns,” Operations Manager/PD Charlie Quinn tells Radio-Info.com. The station plans no full-time replacement for the talent, and his 7 p.m.-midnight shift will likely be replaced by voicetracking. Knight had been with KYXY since 1999, and manned popular show “Love Songs,” which had been a KYXY fixture for more than 25 years. That show will also be leaving the station’s line-up.

Absolutely hoping Gene can find something soon. Have known him for many years, a class act and an incredible talent.

That's seems hard to imagine: where do you go these days?

How many "live" jocks are there now in San Diego and which one of the Jeff N Jer show cast will get his pay now?

Simple: The 'N', Crusty Bob!

Truly a sad day in SD radio. Greener is a staple here in town and an asset to anybody, as RadeoEngineer said, "running a live operation." I too have known Gene for a looong time, since the Peters Productions days and he is a class act.

Unlike many in radio, Greener has no ego. He hired many many people that he saw had a love for radio. I owe my career to Gene Knight. He hired and trained me, then got me my first on air gig. Gene is the best and now KyXy is not the Mercedes of radio stations, its the Prius!

Gene is cool. A pro and a fine guy. All of us wish him the very best in the days ahead. Buff, Lupita and all of us honor his integrity and professionalism, I'm sure. - Ox

They should of cut Charlie, that guy is out of touch with what is going on, he would talk to some employees about stuff and end up being incorrect or not knowing exactly what he was talking about. Many people whispered about dumb stuff he would do like come in at midnight after the power outage to inform people who were already asleep and informed from stations with a tower with generator power and repeated the same 3 news topics over and over and made other employees come in and do the same. The guy doesn't know how many breaks he has in an hour on his station. He doesn't know who to credit with streamlining the station to voice track and run with less people, he just takes credit for it so he and MB can keep their jobs. Gene was more of an asset to the station and will take meter holders with to his new station while Charlie fumbles on how to figure out how radio works in the 21st century.

On the same day, CBS dumped veteran midday talent Nancy Alden from AC WDOK/102.1. I think there are some other CBS salary dumps besides Gene and Nancy.

Nancy (aka "The Lady in Red") had been with WDOK for OVER 20 YEARS, all but a short time of that in middays.

January is contract month with CBS and CBS has figured out that radio is now a business not a liberal arts entertainment format furthermore they have to compete with New Media and will continue to cut every corner they can, the worst is yet to come. I predict 90% of people working in radio will be eliminated within 20 years. Radio will be managed and programmed from a central location. Imaging will replace jocks on music stations.

In a perfect world, the headline would read:
"Gene Knight replaces voicetracking.

Either way, but I'm sure it's one of the two.

Because the respect for him does not stop at the end of 54dbu.

Gene Knight is the greatest! Jeff and Jerk are two old men sitting rambling on about absolutely nothing! They're show is the definition of the word irrelevent. If it wasn't for Bob Bolinger they would still be un-employed as they should still be!
