Gene Norman on Ch 11 Houston

I am watching Ike coverage on DirecTV channel 361 which is simulcasting CBS 11 in Houston and former CBS 46/Atlanta weather guy Gene Norman is handling weather duties.

He and the rest of their crew have done an admirable job, too... I've been watching them for the past couple of days. One very nice touch they've been doing is that they all seem to remember that a lot of folks are listening to them on battery-powered radios (simulcast), so they've done a great job of describing what's on screen for the benefit of those who cannot see it due to no power. A small touch but very well appreciated, I'm sure.

He seems no more special than any other weather jockey I've seen.

Dude, he's no longer in Atlanta. Let him go.

I didn't say he was special. I didn't say he was any more special than any other weather jockey I've ever seen. It was just an observation for Atlanta TV folks. What's going on up there in the big
Poughkeepsie TV market?

Gene is a great guy and good meteorologist. He is replacing a legend in Houston, Dr. Neil Frank, former director of the hurricane center. Dr. Frank had been on KHOU for 20 years (his retirement job). It took them over a year to find his replacement. Gene goes from a horrible station to one of the top two stations in the Houston market.

I would say he was the best one they ever had except the time Johnny Beckman spent at the station. Johnny was the best ever and Ken Cook is a close second in this market.
