General Burkhalter

I read on the Internet that Leon Askin has just recently passed away at age 97. Askin played General Burkhalter on Hogan's Heroes from 1965-1971.
Personally, he was one of my favorite characters on that show, right behind my favorite character Sgt. Hans Schultz.

Colonel Wilhelm Klink: "Ah, General Burkhalter, what a pleasure it is to see you again! And may I ask what brings the general to Stalag 13?"

General Albert Burkhalter: "Klink! Shut up!"

And then there was my favorite Albert Burkhalter exclamation:
"KLINK! YOU FOOL!"

There is a website about Askin.

It may go away now that he has died, so if you have any interest in his career, better take a look soon...

A diverse career, to be sure. He was an accomplished actor, and led a full life.

You know what the really strange thing is/was about Leon Askin? Leon Askin wasn't exactly a thin/svelte-looking man for much of his adult life......and yet he still (somehow) managed to live to the ripe-old-age of 97! So go figure!

He's somewhere telling Klink to "shut up", or sending someone to the Russian front. RIP, General Burkhalter.<P ID="signature">______________
