I was listening to Retro Pop Reunion last night and the host was going to explain something about Canada's government controling the playlist. Could someone explain this? I just missed the little bit he had that explained it. BTW, any thoughts on CIOC and CHTT - Victoria BC? CIOC seems to be shifting towards a hot AC lean while CHTT is slowly filling the hole CIOC is opening. Also noticed a while back that they dropped Howard Cogan as the voice.
 
RPR on the Canadian side may have a host speaking up about the 35-40% Can Con rules for Radio stations in Canada.
(radio being forced to play Canadian music 35-40% of the time)
That's Canada though. If it's an American show on an American station, I have no idea what this is all about.
 
Both CIOC & CHTT have taken a real dump in the Victoria ratings of late, particularly CHTT (Jack FM). I really can't see Rogers moving CHTT in an AC direction though. If anything I would think that reverting back to their previous incarnation HOT 103 with CHR would make the most sense as there is a CHR hole in the Victoria market. I really don't know what Rogers was thinking when they flipped Hot 103 to Jack FM back in 2004 as both 96.9 Jack FM in Vancouver and 96.5 Jack FM in Seattle blast into Victoria. It was doomed for failure.

So that's basically all it is, the government says you need to play these songs by Canadian artists 35-40 percent of the time? Seems pretty simple. The host just happened to mention that he'd explain how it worked as part of the world tour weekend they were doing.
