Genesis move

Studio 20 - "we're past the days of..."
No we're not. No one wants to do business with "losers".
Why did they move? Their Atlanta financier pulled the plug.
Let's call him "Don" -- the developer of major mall and business
highrises in Atlanta. We are not "mudswamp" La/Ga.
People want to do business with successful people.
Look for a Chapter 11 very soon. By the way, "Hollywood"
Manning left the building because the RF interferred with his
pacemaker. True dat!! Look for Reeves, Sports Babe & ESPN PM team
to jump ship soon! It is a sinking ship> Merry Christmas BM --

Excuse me, I hardly think that cutting expenses by using a habitable studio / office at the transmitter site makes you a loser. Sounds like talk from a wet-behind-the-ears sales geek who didn't earn any commission this month. Sour grapes.

The palatial marble floor, glass-office tower "cubicle city" studio is one of the reasons that things like (cough cough) payroll and quality on-air product has had to be cut to the bone. I know of one Top 10 market standalone AM that went under, their demise accelerated by $6,400 a month in STUDIO RENT, all because the owner had to dress to impress. Once again, for the learning impaired: LISTENERS AND CLIENTS DO NOT CARE WHAT YOUR STUDIO LOOKS LIKE. This is RADIO. Not TV. Worry FIRST about your on-air product. Second, hire a grouchy Chief Engineer with gray hair and a pocket protector...somebody who can do something other than re-boot a computer. Impressing your buddies and the 20-something chick you met last night at Applebee's is far down on the list. Grow up.

Looks like Genesis is abandoning their dual day/night site move of 1470 over to Tampa. Now it looks like they will go with a combined day/night site at I believe the WTMP site in Egypt Lake. A lot of engineering money has surely gone into that project which will result in a better signal over Tampa but does Tampa really need another AM signal?
It looks as though Genesis modified their prior CP on 21 Sept 2010 (this is off the FCC site; Radio-locator still does not show the latest CP) and if I'm reading it correctly, both daytime and nighttime operations will be at the Egypt Lake site (just to the w.n.w. of Habana and Sligh Ave). Daytime power will be 750 watts n.d. as opposed to 3,000 watts directional at the Palm River site and nighttime will be at the Egypt Lake site as originallly planned with the original nighttime power of 800 watts.

This pretty much makes them a Tampa only station as far as decent coverage; of course with the last several formats, some may not consider that a loss to Dunedin and northern Pinellas.

I'm not sure what their goals were by leaving Dunedin and moving across the bay, but whatever those goals were they have more or less been lost with the modified CP,especially if the goal was to have more of a regional coverage throughout the most populated portion of the metro area.

A lot of "good radio" was created in not-so-classy surroundings. Radio isn't television. Your listeners probably don't give 2 s--t's what your studio or offices look like. Worry about the on-air product first. If someone asks why your facilities are less than stellar, tell them: The on-air product, and our listeners come FIRST.

You don't need any more proof when you consider the old building down by the river that housed the WALT studios.
I lived in Tampa in the late '60 and spent a little time there. It was hard to believe that one of the best rockers was located in such a dump :D. Too bad WALT was just a daytimer - Tampa deserved more than that.

What?! No more Mike Reeves in the mornings?? There is a "Higher Power"! Question is, who will carry "The Savage Nation" and "The Chris Markowski Show" now?? Mornings-since Shayna and Roger were canned-have just been a "point-n-click" program from the "ABC News" website: Zero substance period. Jo Jo and Gonzales (week of Christmas 2010) produced an immense increase of intellect while reeves was away. Call of the week goes to some guy whom called in during a guest Psychic; "How much longer will this station put up with this hack Mike Reeves?" Paul and Jo Jo about had a coniption fit...that was the funniest "fun" thing the "Big Show" produced/improvised. Never laughed harder at a show in the mornings.
In my opinion, the whole downfall of WWBA is/was staged by Atlanta. Mornings began to tank once Pankau was brought aboard. Smerconish doesn't play outside of Philly period. Got rid of "Dave Ramsey." Bright spot(s) Markowski and Savage. Re-plays after that...
Ho Hum. Guess ABC doesn't have any room on their satellite for mediocre...but stop by the "Facial Rejuvenation" experts...

Since their move of their studios from Tampa to the 820 transmitter site, I have noticed that both 820-WWBA and 1040-WHBO have had hours of dead air. It's just now a few minutes before 5 AM New Year's Eve day and on 820 I'm receiving Cuba and WBAP, and it's been that way since around 8 PM last night, so it's been about 9 hours. The other evening WHBO was off the air for at least 2 hours. I don't know if 1470 has been dark at all, since I can't receive them at all at night from this location near downtown St. Petersburg.

Technical problems with the new layout or a way to cut expenses even further? Certainly not a way to sustain what listenship they have.

Yeah, WALT was a great station. Unfortunately, they were stuck on 1110, and could never get FCC authorization to go fulltime.

I agree with the poster suggesting they have their local hosts operate out of their homes. These days you could almost do the whole damn show via Skype for free anyway.

Okay, a few "bugs" have/were been fixed. Now, this morning, WWBA listeners were "priviledged" to hear an on-air job interview with Shawna Vercher by Mike Reeves. Pullease. Listeners do NOT care about her diversity, they/we are ONLY concerned with the truth period. Please, try again. She's a mouth breather.

That sounds pretty harsh. They are probably just trying to survive with no numbers to sell. I wonder if they might try to hire Whitney Johnson for their sports station? It might bring some listeners over from WDAE.

um...son..perhaps if they hadn't blown the wad on overhead...they might have had a fighting chance to succeed. To succeed one at least should take in more money than they put out. Investors want to see green more than they want to see cheesy carpet, "Employee Of The Month" plaques, and tacky plants in the waiting room.

But you keep that big overhead attitude and you ll be seeing fewer and fewer people in those long canyons between the a.e's offices and the studios.
