Genesis to flip Orlando station to ESPN Deportes

Mr. Bruce Maduri and family have purchased the rights to ESPN Deportes and are planning to flip Talk Radio 1190am (anyone even heard of this station??) to ESPN Deportes in Spanish by the second week of November...

First of all, does anyone think this format will be successful in Orlando?? Secondly, does anyone think a company that can't even succeed in English can do so in Spanish?? Especially when we all know the reputation Genesis has??

What the hell is going on with that company???

I'm not quite sure. WWBA isn't even pulling a 1 share so I'm unsure of how this company survives.

Some of their more recent moves appear a bit desperate.

I'm not sure if ESPN Deportes makes much sense for a station in Florida.

Most Spanish-speaking residents in the Orlando area come from the Caribbean... Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic. But ESPN Deportes aims more at sports fans from Mexico. Mexican leagues are discussed more than teams from the Caribbean.

There are no prominent ESPN Deportes stations in Miami, New York, Boston or anyplace where Spanish speakers from the Caribbean dominate. Mexican immigrants are increasing in numbers in places where Caribbean Spanish-speakers dominate. There are Regional Mexican music stations in Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville, but they're all on AM and get minimal ratings.

good points but on the other hand what have they got to loose. Their 1190 in Orlando ended up being a lot of paid programming. At least it's not going the way of another Mexican music station on AM
