Geoff Fox on the way out at WTNH

I would love to know what LIN's justification is for doing this. Because I simply can't imagine why they'd jettison the #1 met in the market. He is about the most well-known personality on WTNH's news staff. A really dumb, idiotic, stupid, moronic move IMO. And watch them replace Fox with some nobody from Champaign/Urbana or Greenville.

And they wonder why WTNH is a proverbial also-ran. All I can say is that they must be running out of money to pull a move like this. Like kms, I wish Geoff the very best of luck.
 
Come on now, WTNH hasn't been one to score high level talent in ages and when they do they promptly get rid of them. Hmm, they had a traffic reporter who was a shoplifter, maybe they plan to hire an arsonist to do the weather?

Face it, they have to be one of the worst stations in the state (if not the worst) and as much as it pains me to say, it's a toss up to decide watching between news on 8 and the informercial circus on 43! I wouldn't put it past 'TNH to go all "T & A" in some desperate attempt to get any sort of ratings. A couple of "insiders" I spoke with during the last year paint a picture of the place being the "WKRP" of television operations.

I hope Geoff lands on his feet, if not only for the fact he's been a fixture on the air for so many years. Some station must have the intelligence to pick him up - and God forbid it's a Hartford station drawing numbers away from New Haven.

Maybe Channel 3's "Fairfield County" HD-subchannel with a dedicated weather with Geoff?

Does Geoff have a non-compete clause in his contract? After checking his bio at WFSB-TV, Bruce DePrest has been with channel 3 since 1984. I think Brad Field has been with WVIT-TV about as long.

News 8's "got Your Back". This awful slogan just about sums it up. I'll be watching ABC7, they are a professional bunch IMHO.

News 8's "got your back" which is important because it allows them plenty of time to decide exactly where to stick the dagger. ;D
 
Anybody want to be that FOX-61 is going to can Garrett and bring in Geoff Fox? Seems like a no brainer.

Apparently his contract isn't being renewed either. Can anyone confirm this? If so, it seems like a logical move and a huge coup for WTIC.
 
Is he the cheif weather guy at Channel 8? Surprise to see them let him go. Can't see WFSB picking him up as they have Bruce Deprest who is very well know and does a great job there. Maybe 61 or 30 could go after him.

Also is Dr. Mel still with Channel 8?
 
Ever see Geoff driving around in his convertible Mercedes? I can only imagine how much his most recent contracts were for.

And given WTNH's track record, they themselves probably weren't intelligent enough to include a non-compete in Fox's contract - could be wrong, though...

The Connecticut legislature a few years ago rightfully outlawed non-competes in broadcast contracts.

I will miss Geoff,I met him at a hamfest years ago.I will wish him luck.His name will be in the list of Channel 8 's alumi. of meteorologists were Ken Venit,Gail Janus and others are.

I went on it, can't believe all the posts. Lot of people are turning off 8. This can only mean WFSB ratings are going up along with NBC 30's.
 
I like Darren Sweeney on NBC. He is only on during the weekend and fills in here and there during the week. I find him to be professional, engaging, intelligent, quite personable and he's not bad to look at either. When you have that all rolled in to one, you have something amazing. I will be getting my weather from NBC from now on.
