George Carlin dead

...in addition to his TV work, including seemingly countless HBO specials and two TV series (a late-'90s sitcom on Fox and the summer replacement variety hour for Jackie Gleason circa '67), he was a radio disc jockey in the early '60s in Louisiana and Texas...

Grew up watching him -- always a favorite. He had that unique ability to make you laugh uproariously, and sometimes squirm at his bluntness and irreverence, but then when it was all over, you realized that through all the naughty bits and gonzo humor, he had actually made some very profound and perceptive observations about humanity. You'd finish your laughing jag, and then think about what he had said, and it was like a light bulb: "Damn.....you know, he's right!"

Three TV series, if you count his role as Mr. Conductor on "Shining Time Station" (replacing former Beatle Ringo Starr).
