Is anybody going to give George Carlin the same credit he is due the same way they lavished it on Tim Russert in the week following his death?.....

Believe me, his impact on pop culture was tremendous

Sadly not as much. When Russert died I was reading on some other boards messages from those who really believed that there should be a national day of mourning because of his death. No mail delivery and banks closed because of Tim Russert ???? I think its a safe bet to say one won't be suggesting the same thing over Carlin's death.

Of course when one sees such stuff posted online, chances a lot of these "experts" ( mainly someone under 23 ) who have never stepped foot inside a broadcast studio or newsroom so they really do know..nothing and/or they post only for the sake of posting.

Rather than have a national holiday, I think we should have an umbrella designated day around this time of the year, similar to Flag day or Presidents day, to remember those who in the media who had a great influence. People like Russert, Carlin, or even Groucho Marx for that matter can all be paid tribute on the same day. Perhaps we could call it something like "Free Speech Day" or "Famous Speakers" day?

That will never happen, if there's one thing the government is trying to squelch as much as possible, it's "free speech". Do you think they'd actually designate a day to remind people of that?

Yep, He's now known as the man who invented these 8 words you can now say on premium cable (i.e. HBO): F__K, S__T. C___T, C__KS_____R, M_____R F_____R, P__S, T__S, & N_____R. You know whati'm talking about.

All across America, a few of those words are likely being uttered.

I didn't always like Carlin's style, but I sure appreciated the intelligence he brought to comedy.
