The man was a master of words. From the early days of Al Sleet to the Seven you couldn't say...he did it all. I think I wore out a dozen record needles in the 60's and 70's listening to those ablums.

And a very intelligent commedian.. the use of language, our manerisms, morals, and human nature were all topics that set him apart. Listen to his routine about our homes being just a place to keep all our "stuff" and how he takes off on that premise. Yes, he had the seven dirty words and could be as raunchy as any commedian.. but I think he was miles above the foul mouthed funnymen of today. He was the first host of Saturday Night Live and of all starange things played the conductor on a kids PBS TV show! I found it strange that he never really found a great veichle on the big screen. He had minor roles in some movies, but nothing like Steve Martin, Richard Pryor or other commedians of his era. He will be missed.

Check out http://freshair.npr.org for Monday, June 23 - a repeat interview he gave in 2004... and it included a question about death. Podcast is available also... He talks about his background and how he started out in radio when he was 18... Some good stuff.

I could be wrong on this...but I believe Carlin was one of the first comics of his time to use the media in his material....making fun of the news, sports and weather people...and he did a could of things about dj's as well.
