George HALE GETS NEW STUDIOS AT WABI-910//FORMAT CHANGE

Check out today's (Wed. 12/19) Bangor Daily News for an article on Bangor Radio/TV legend George Hale getting his own studio at the CC facility in Bangor. Also WABI-910 is shfting format from talk to "Standards".

It has been talk for at least the past 2 years, or so..It was Westwood 1 up until about mid 2005. Should also note that their signal has really deteriorated lately too. Even driving down Route 1A from Brewer to Ellsworth, the signal drops off quickly once you get past Dedham with power line interference really bad. Not saying much for their 5,000 watts. They used to come in quite well while driving all the way down here to Mt. Desert island.

A LOOOOOONNNNGGG time, 50+ years at least! and I say that with the highest respect.. I'm quite sure he has also been with formerly-co-owned WABI TV5 since day one! (Maine's first TV station signing on in 1953)

BTW I believe WABI-910 is the second or third oldest station in Maine. I'm pretty sure 560 and 970 in Portland are probably older. Comments/Corrections?

I found a reference to AM620 in Bangor as going back to the twenties (as WLBZ radio, it is now WZON) but I couldn't nail down a sign on date. Anyone?

I listened to a re-broadcast of the studio dedication and it was mentioned that WABI 910 went on the air in 1928. They also mentioned that George Hale went to work there in the "50's so he has been at that station for 50+- years. What a run ! Congratulations George !!
