George Hale in The Edge

A great read. And it's great for Mike Dow to let him tell the story in the first person. I could hear Mr. Hale's voice throughout. This is radio history that needs to be preserved for future generations.

I agree --- absolutely a great article, one that everyone who has an interest in radio (whether in New England or nationally) should read. George will celebrate his 60th anniversary on the Bangor airwaves next year.

I do think it's too bad that Blueberry Broadcasting (of which I'm NOT a fan) didn't let George keep his morning show on WABI in addition to the talk show on 'VOM, after rededicating the WABIstudio in his honor. I also didn't think much of the totally unnecessary call letter alteration that --- in defiance of nearly 90 years of history, plus the fact that it's the oldest radio station in Maine --- "merged" WABI's call with WEEI's. In the end, the whole thing proved pointless anyway, as the new WAEI disaffiliated itself from the WEEI Sports Network.

Where do the people who run companies like this come from, anyway??

Well worth the read. I've read many stories about him over the years, and I expected the same re-hashed, but there is a lot of information I had not heard before. Like anyone who lived through most of the best years of broadcasting, I'm sure he could fill many more pages with history and amusing stories.

Excellent article full of cool info. Happy anniversary George! Good writin Mikey!
