George HW Bush dead at age 94

The MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, and ABC coverage of Bush's death has been quite praising. That is all good. A President who dies should always get respect. But isn't there just a bit of suspicion here that these "liberal" leaning outlets are trying to compare Bush to Trump? Don't get me wrong, I am not a Trump fan. But it seems obvious to me these networks have a political agenda even though they were against Bush generally in the late 80's/early 90's. There seemingly seems to be some hypocrisy here, but the coverage of the funeral today was very fair on all accounts.

Keep in mind MSNBC and Fox News weren't around when he was president. Both were started in 1996. Honestly MSNBC wasn't the liberal outlet it has become until recently. The other networks were more critical of Carter than of Bush, partly because he was not very adept with the media, but also because his policies failed.

The "liberal" networks also emphasized the positives of Gerald Ford after his death -- his devotion to Betty and his kids, his All-American football years at Michigan, his plain-spoken Middle American way of talking -- leaving behind the old criticisms of him for lack of vision in dealing with the energy crisis and his pardoning of his predecessor, Richard Nixon. George W. Bush was president then, but I don't remember anyone accusing the networks of using praise for Ford as a way to disparage Bush.

Nixon died on Bill Clinton's watch. No president until Trump had enraged the left the way Nixon did, but still, network coverage mentioned Watergate and Nixon's downfall only in passing. Most of what went out on air was appreciation for his intelligence, his foreign policy acumen, his resiliency as a politician, his rock-solid marriage to Pat. This certainly wasn't being done to disparage the womanizing, truth-shading Clinton. Maybe those two presidents were TOO similar for anything like that to work -- very smart men with deep personal flaws.

What strikes me about that is the hypocrisy of a media that would fawn over Bush in death. They sure weren't too kind to him during his Presidency.

I guess it's just considered the kind and decent thing to do. Will be interesting to see how they behave someday at Trump's funeral.

Greatest thing since raisin toast, just like Bush 41, Reagan, Ford, Nixon, and so forth.
