George Lindsey Announces he is leaving for Houston

George announced today that he's moving to Houston to take another morning team position.

Must be out of the Alpha Media group, because they only have a cluster in San Antonio.

Friday is his last day.

I am very surprised. Thought he would never leave louisville. Wonder who will be the new host of 102.3 mornin show and who will be the new operations manager? I say mike shannon as mornin host always good for some laughs.

Radio One, "the urban media specialist," has a cluster in Houston... maybe he is going back to the one company he truly loved to work for to run KROI, the old school hip hop station Radio One launched a few months ago.

But seriously, I think he is headed to work for the CBS cluster there. Maybe the CBS-owned country music station in Houston? It is interesting to note that if you look at his Facebook profile, he recently liked that page... and it looks like they have nobody on the air before 9 AM right now.

Has he ever left Louisville before? I know he made a departure from his typical format when he went to WLKY radio to work in between Mix 102 and Love 102, but that was still local. Call me crazy, but I sort of feel like we haven't heard the last of George Lindsey in Louisville and that he'll be back.

I remember when i was a kid chris randolph left djx in 1988 for chicago for a year and came back. And he left in like 07 to go to mix in florida and he came back so ya may be right about mr lindsey. I bet he got an offer that was to good to pass up for he made good money here and had job security it seems.

This reminds me of the time when Frank Burns moved to another unit and his replacement was Winchester. In other words, nothing good can come from this.

I don't see how much good can come out of this either. George Lindsey doesn't seem to be the most obvious fit for a country music station (it has been confirmed that is where he is going) and part of his appeal around here is that he is a familiar voice that has been here for a long time. Meanwhile, it is hard to imagine who could replace him here... "Lambert and Rasmussen" isn't going to cut it. I'm sure they'll keep them around, but Lynda is going to need somebody bigger to go along with her. With the kind of morning show that they run at The Max, you really need somebody who has been established locally. Of course that isn't to mention how George really has made 102.3 what it is outside of just the morning hours.

I still think that The Max can weather this and they still won't have to be worried about 100.5, but it'll hurt them at least a little bit.

Here is the story from RadioInsight:

One of the stories about George that I remember hearing is that when he worked at WAVG 970 he was on a station cruise and when he called in to do a report WAVG wouldn't take his calls! I guess after that happened he figured that his time at WAVG was over.I think this was in 1988 when the new owners of WAVG and WLRS took over. That's when WLRS changed to Rock 102 and WAVG switched to Oldies.

He went to Seattle for a year and a half or so back in the 80's.

Ahh, there you go then. It isn't that I wish him bad luck or anything, in fact it would be great if this works out for him... it is just that I've seen how well these Louisville legends (which he sort of is, in a way) have fared in other cities. Basically, they haven't done well at all, it seems to be a trend. But I'm sure when he decides to (or is pushed into) return in a year or two, there will be a spot for him at 106.9, whatever concoction is happening at 100.5 then, or perhaps the one place where the good talents of yesteryear go to mesh into a big pile where none of them really fit together... WAKY.

Get arron miller back he is to funny. Lets see glenn beck use to be on wrka he has done well. Frosty stillwell worked on kiss 104 he went on and does well and jane norris whom use to do 840 whas 9 to noon do well. But none of them started in kentucky.

I kind of like the idea of Mike Shannon, and he was let go from his most recent job (a morning show on a Hot AC station in Toledo, so this is right up his alley!) only a few months ago... so he's probably available. That isn't even to mention that many people in The Max's target audience were WDJX's target audience, and I'm sure a lot of people remember him. The only issue is Lynda... would they have good on-air chemistry? Shannon always struck me as more of a solo guy, but Lynda is definitely a critical piece to the success of the morning show.

Gary Burbank for instance. No wait, that one worked out at WLW.

Kris Daniels! No shoot. She worked out in Vegas.

I know... Glenn Beck! He sucked when he left here. For... awhile.

But hey.. Bobby Petrino came back, right?
