George Michael/Wham on 106.7.....Need I Say More?

What are they trying to do rock/pop/soul/motown all in one station?

I have said this before, Cumulus and some of the people still left over from the Citadel days know how to program a good greatest hits station.

Look at WLS-Chicago's playlist this afternoon (IIRC, #3 in Chicago):
Rockin Around the Christmas Tree-Brenda Lee
All Day and All of the Night- The Kinks
Heart and Soul- Huey Lewis& the news
Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)- Marvin Gaye
Hey Baby (They're Playin' our song)- Buckinghams
I'd Really love to see you- England Dan
We Built this City- Starship
Please Mr. Postman- Marvelettes
You're the inspiration- Chicago
Rock'n Me- Steve Miller
Good Times- Chic

Now, Look at WYAY-106.7
Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go- Wham!
Signed Sealed Delivered- Stevie Wonder
Mr. Tambourine Man- Byrds
Last Dance- Donna Summer
Power of <3- Huey Lewis
Whatcha See- Dramatics
Lady Madonna- Beatles
Only The Good Die Young- Billy Joel
Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree- Brenda Lee
Jumpin Jack- Rolling Stones
You've Lost That Lovin Feeling- Hall/Oates

So......I think that if WYAY would not play Stevie Wonder and then Happy Boy Wham, they'd do well.

Oh, like England Dan/John Ford Coley into Starship into Marvelettes on WLS-FM is any different?

103.5 WGRR in Cincinnati is much better sounding than either, IMO. The music mixes very well and the station is well presented, and it shows in their ratings.

6:00 Playlist for WGRR:
Walk This Way // Aerosmith
Happy Together // Turtles
Main Street // Bob Seger & Silver Bullet Band
Get Back // Beatles
Boogie Shoes // KC and The Sunshine Band
Do You Know What I Mean // Lee Michaels
Last Christmas // Wham
Do You Know What I Mean // Lee Michaels

So Aerosmith to the Turtles is a great mix? I am not saying that I do not like the songs, I just think it is a bad order to play it in. If you do that, and play something from the 60s and then the 80s, you might just have to turn yourself into a "we play everything" BEN-FM!

How do you explain WLS being Chicago's most listened to music station?

I've heard CBS classic hits stations, which are some of the most respected in the country, play acts like Aerosmith against acts like The Turtles. It's just the way the format is, I guess.

IMHO "oldies" listeners are more "tolerant". I (too old to be in the money demo's) will put up with a song I do not care for because I know the next song will be from a different "era" on a good classic hits or oldies station.

Did WGRR actually play "Do You Know What I Mean" twice within a ten-minute period, or is that a mistype?
