George Norry should be fired

George Noory makes Glenn Beck look like a Mensa member.

George Noory is an idiot.

If he can still trigger those kinds of emotions, he's got job security. How many of your type tune in just to yell at their radio?

So "triggering emotions" is why you have a radio license? What, to rile listeners up to make them want to buy into worthless stuff you're peddling? Secret formula potions to make you immortal? Magic beans?? And say whatever you like, no matter how many people are hurt in the process? 'Cause you've got the mic!
I also missed the memo that slander and libel are now protected by the first amendment. But maybe that's all that some of these cads on the air want - attention. And someone else to pay the attorney fees that might get them in the news.
"Some reports say..." That's gossip and fiction, not investigative news, when you can't name where those "reports" are coming from. Did you hear that on Twitter?? What a waste of technology to have 500+ stations filling the overnights with this kind of dung. Noory and his ilk don't even rate any kind of water cooler conversations, except maybe at the pawn shop and gun store. They're just riling up a few people who are already pre-disposed to piss off their neighbors and alienate their kids with their anti-social fantasies. And isn't that just what America needs more of? Thank you, AM radio, for making our lives so full of sunshine and love!

No, people (corporations really) have a radio license to make money and to do that they need to trigger emotions so that listeners will tune in and give them the ratings needed to sell ads (or send in donations in the case of public radio). Whether it's news, talk or music it's all about establishing an emotional tie to the listeners. And it's not just radio: take a look at the promotional ads local TV stations do for their news departments. It's all about "the people who care," "news you can trust," etc. Heck, people like Katie Couric aren't hired to perform the news because they are great journalists, they are hired because they trigger the right kind of emotions in focus groups.

As shown in this thread, too, it doesn't always have to be about generating positive emotions as Norry seems to have legions of haters who help raise his profile (“I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right..."). Certainly he's apparently important enough to cause you to spend time and energy writing and worrying about him. Myself, I don't see any overnight AM radio host has having any influence in today's media-saturated world, anymore than something on the other fringe, say Pacifica radio, would.
