GEORGE STEPHAN"OOP"OLIS: A "In Memorium" Gaff

Watched the usually interesting ABC Sunday Program with George Stephanopolis this morning. Good interviews with Ted Kennedy and others but when they did the segment "In Memorium" they noted the passing of key notables including Lew Rawls and 15 American solidiers in Bush's war but ABC failed to note the deaths of the 12 miners in West Virginia. That is a major mistake! They gave their lives so that we could run this energy wasteful country. The least ABC could do would be to honor their memory
 
Now, I could be really wrong here, but that I knew of....only 9 names had be ever released. Now, if there others have been since...I didn't know.

They weren't politically connected or "star power" so they didn't make the list, and the military names has been consistent since the war began. I agree they could have been mentioned, but these Sunday morning talk shows have been disconnected from the rest of America outside of the beltway for years, so I wasn't surprised.

Did you see the last 5 minutes of the show? He did talk about the miners.

Oh gimme a freakin' break! This "oops" -- as you THINK it is -- is far from such a thing. You even mentioned that ABC (along with other networks) were all over this all week long. So, I would hardly say they were "snubbed", as you THINK they were. The miners -- and the dangers of the industry as a whole -- were given extensive coverage, both in television and print media this past week.

But yet, you're on the verge of bursting a blood vessel because they didn't get a mention on a Sunday news program??!! C'mon, man!

What really made this story what it was the breakdown in communication where the families and everyone else who watched it playout LIVE in the middle of the night (well at least in the East and Central time zones) were led to believe that all but one survived -- and let this lie go on for several hours -- even though there were mine officials who knew the truth. Then about 3 hours later come out and say "umm, only ONE survived."

If that mistake didn't happen, this story would've been swept under the rug within about 48 hours.

Wrong, I hope you will see it, if you check out the this week site...he did talk about the miners right at the end...you may have turned the channel a bit early...

I believe I watched the entire program until the next program started.
If Stephanopolis mentioned the miners that is good but I still believe a better forum in which to honor their memory should have been the "In Memorium" section.

Actually, the only point I am making is that you are being schooled by me. You were all up-in-arms because "This Week" didn't give any remembrance to the miners who died.

My point was that ABC and other networks gave plenty of "remembrance" and time to the miners.

It may be callous but true about today's alleged journalism. The press is off to some other disaster or back to someone missing from a honeymoon cruise...

Patty Cheyefsky was on point with "Network" thirty years ago and it in prophetically true today.

The only people who watch network news now-a-days no longer have the lung capacity to yell, nor the mobility to get to a window.

If you did get anyone to said windows, you would get 10...maybe 15 max nationwide.
