My mentor and friend George Wilson passed away this morning 4/10/2013, services pending....his last commercial radio position was with KIVA here in Albuquerque, where he was still residing with his wife Jackie.. He was currently programming George Wilson Memory Tunes on Live365.com, I was honored to be part of his programming team on live.365...George was a master programmer, he had a great instinct for what the listener wanted to hear, when I would hear radio people comment about his programming being all over the place, I would chuckle to myself "they just don't get it, but his listeners did, and they loved him for it, thank you George for everything you taught me" - Vince

George Wilson George Wilson, starting out as a professional baseball player, he became a sports announcer and then a disc jockey in the 1950's. As a broadcast executive with Bartell Broadcasting and the Starr group of stations he was twice honored as National Program Director and named by his peers as Radio Executive of the Year. George served as station manager, President and board member of major radio broadcast groups. He serves on the Nominating Committee of the "Hit Parade" Hall of Fame and opeartes " George Wilson's Memory Tunes.

"In my day, everything came from my belly button and seat of the pants. Today, everything is done from research".

I was fortunate enough to be within range of WOKY in Milwaukee during its top 40 days when it was Bartell-owned and programmed by George Wilson. In the opinion of many, WOKY was a better listen than the legendary Chicago blowtorches to the south. I'll leave it to others to debate that point. Chicago could afford to pay top dollar for talent (some of which came from WOKY)....but I always thought WOKY had the better music rotation.

It had been awhile since I worked with George on live365.com. 2006-2010... He had since moved to, a streaming site (streamfinder.com), since George passed this morning, his station is still streaming, don't know how much longer. George's current station is classic country, he could program anything and everything, check-out his station, the programming is amazing...http://memorytunes.fm/

Obviously a little shook up this morning , the subject title should read 4/10/2013..not 2014, sorry about that.
