Georgia Eagle Stations

What's up with all the call letter/format changes. Wonder when they will will finally sink that cluster of broken down, money losing stations? Engineer friend tells me they're barely hanging on.

???

Hmmm, here goes!

The former WQSA (99.9 FM), "aka" Sunny 99.9, becomes the FM version of the new "WNNG The Patriot". Of course, the AM side is at 1350.

http://www.wnngthepatriot.com

The station formerly known as "103.9 The Patriot" is now Qwixie 103.9 WQXZ, although that station was a part of the "Christmas Channel" network playing Christmas music.

"Sunny" moves to 98.3 under the WSSY call letters.

Hope this helps.

Great! Another FM radio channel being wasted on Talk Radio.

Do we really need stereo 15Khz audio for people ranting about Democrats, Immigration and race?

BTW, my favorite station is an AM that carries all BBC World Service (features and news).

WNNG - Changes are a brewin'

Seems like a waste to put WNNG on 99.9 FM. 99.9 has a smaller footprint and is further away from Macon than 1350. I don't know what kind of ratings 99.9 was getting, perhaps it was dead last. I have read the praise of WNNG and understand that it is the crown jewel of local radio in central Gerogia. As I see thinkgs, the only advantage of putting WNNG on FM is to add a full signal at night for high school football and other sporting events.

Comments?

I listen to Georgia Eagle stations quite a bit driving between Albany and Macon. So far, I like the changes. The oldies that were on 98.3 are now on 103.9, a strong signal. 98.3 seems to have gone to a standards format like the one that use to be on WNNG-AM. Having the news/talk on 99.9 is great for the counties south of Warner Robins if it is no longer on 103.9. WNNG-AM has a strong signal during the day, but only covers Warner Robins at night, so this allows folks further south to continue listening later in the day and evenings. I especially like their commitment to news.

I bet Georgia Eagle is facing the same financial situation that everyone in radio faces in this economy. I do hear a lot of spots on their stations for small businesses in many different towns. I, for one, am pulling for all the small operators. At least they are trying to do radio somewhat like it use to be. I hope they survive, no thrive. We need those independent broadcasters.

That reminds me--someone told me that none other than Jay Braswell had gone to work managing some of the Georgia Eagle Stations. Perhaps he could update us on the goings on over in the old WCEH land.

I hope that Georgia Eagle will cool it with the high school sports and get some live jocks. Maybe the numbers look good for local sports but I can't see how if the market goes beyond the county lines of the tower.

It's the best kept secret in radioland. Yes, I am doing some consultation for Georgia Eagle in Hawkinsville...have been since July 1st.

Hawkinsville has been my home since 1992, although I've spent quite a few of those 16+ years "on the road". I think everyone will agree that times are tough (have been with me for a couple of years) and, as my daddy used to say, "Boy, good jobs is hard to find...". That being that (and then some), here I am.

As for the "plan"...no secrets. Pretty much everything has already been reported. There might be a few other tricks up the sleeves, but it's a short-sleeve shirt.

Stay tuned.

I disagree. Keep the high school sports on the air, at least in Warner Robins. And besides, how are people going to keep up with the action if they can't be at the game? I do agree about having more live jocks, though, at the local level. Plus, radiofreegeorgia hit the nail right on the head about Georgia Eagle's local news coverage. With only two weekly newspapers currently in Houston County, having a strong broadcast news operation is very critical in this day and age.
