Georgia Radio History

New, for your weekend listening pleasure, Karl Phillips on WGST from March of 1974 and an old WQXI holiday jingle in the "Audio Archives" section at www.grhof.com. Also, newly discovered photos of legendary Atlanta jock Bob McKee at WQXI and WAKE in "Legendary Stations".
Enjoy!

Is that John Leader on WQXI the same that hosted Countdown America back in the 80's?

Oh, cool! I get to tell my John Leader story. ;D (It takes so little to occupy old people like me.)

Back in 1972 I was working in Valdosta at WVLD and shared an apartment with two other disc jockeys. One was Bob Harrison and Wayne Hagan (known as Jeff Morgan.) Bob and I were in Atlanta one day and decided to "drop by" WQXI to ask to see the studios. John Leader was the PD and was very generous with his time. We kinda were expecting to just look at the studios, but Leader invited us in his office and we talked radio. A very nice and extremely talented guy.

Years later, John Leader would be the voice for Drake Chenault and was the one who had to do the "Custom" time checks for FM 99. ("At FM 99 it's 12:30. At FM 99 it's 12:32. It's 12:33 at FM99.")

And to think, we almost lost him to medical school.
