Georgia stations sold

All Access reports that Clear Channel has WAGH (98.3 FM) of Columbus, and WEBL (102.5 FM), of Warner Robins/Macon to the "Aloha Station Trust".

All Access also reports that silent WFFM (105.7 FM) of Ashburn was sold from the Educational Media Foundation to Three Trees Communications, which ironically, once owned WJYF (95.3 FM) before EMF bought it. That move comes as a huge surprise, since there was the assumption that EMF would keep WFFM, but that apparently wasn't the case.

Also, WFFM's former sister station WRXZ (106.1 FM) of Sylvester/Albany was picked up by EMF form On Top Communications for $615,000 earlier this year, and eventually had its call letters to WHKV. Of course, WHKV now carries programming from K-LOVE. Who knows, the 102.5 out of Warner Robins could be a good fit for either EMF or Georgia Eagle Broadcasting.

Any questions? Comments?

What is the Aloha Trust for? Are they likely to sell these stations? Why would they get rid of a station in a cluster like Macon where they are already at a disadvantage?

I was up in Albany on Friday and caught 105.7 as "Positive Country." Sounded like a mix of gold-based country and gospel. The top of the hour ID included Tifton. If you want twang without the drinking, cheating, and fighting, this would be your station.

Also, the K-Love translator at 105.1 in Albany is on. It is repeating WKVH 91.9 from Monticello, FL, and not WHKV 106.1 (although the only way to tell is the TOH ID). The signal for 106.1 is pretty decent, so I'm not sure it will do much for them, unless they are keeping it warm for an Air1 feed.

Speaking of translators, in Mitchell COunty Radio Assist's 94.3 and Edgewater's 99.9 are on the on air reboradcasting GPB radio. THe FCC records show 94.3's primary as WABR Tifton and 99.9's as WUNV Albany. 94.3 got out fairly well, but 99.9 was getting a lot of interference from 99.9 in Tallahassee.

Clear Channel is being turned into a private company (i.e., not publicly traded) and they are having to sell off stations to remain within the FCC requirements. They are putting the stations in the trust, thus satisfying the requirements, and presumably they will be sold later.

It's good that GPB Radio is using some of those translators to reach areas where the signals of their full-power stations can't reach. Obviously, there are currently no GPB member stations between Valdosta and the Alabama state line. Not only that, GPB Radio is virtually non-existent in most of metro Atlanta and North Georgia, aside from WGPB and WPPR.

As for the new "Positive Country 105.7", it seems to be a good start, but it'll be interesting to see how long that format will last.

It would be nice to see GPB on some translators in areas where it is not currently received. Unfortunately, I think this is just temporary until Radio Assist/Edgewater can sell them or put their religious networks on them. I'm curious whether GPB is getting anything in return for giving these translator speculators a signal to list for their applications? I e-mailed GPB with this question, so it will be interesting to see if they answer.

It's been a long time since I've been up to Tifton. Is 105.7's signal any good? It seems like an over-radioed area.
