Geraldo On WPRV-790

WPRV-790 has again reduced it's business programming from Bloomberg Radio.

A few months ago, the 12 Noon-2 P.M. portion was replaced by the syndicated Mike Huckabee show.

Today (August 13th), the station eliminated the 10 A.M.-12 Noon portion of Bloomberg and replaced it with the new Geraldo Rivera radio talk show, which went national just today.

I believe Bloomberg radio still runs an hour on weekday mornings between 5 and 6 A.M.

Both shows are distributed by WPRV parent Cumulus.

Could Geraldo just be parked there for the time being?

Possibly.

With the problems now surrounding WPRO-630's John DePetro (see separate thread), perhaps DePetro might get axed and Geraldo might be moving down the dial after a short time at 790, which might bring Bloomberg Radio back to 790 between 10 A.M. and 12 Noon (or perhaps even 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. were WPRO to fire Dan Yorke and move the syndicated Mike Huckabee show over from 790).

I was thinking somewhat on the same line.Extend Tara till 10 am.Geraldo 10-12,Huckabee 12-3.I think Dan just signed a new contract. I thought there was a thread on it.If so Cianci gone or Yorke to WPRV the remainder of his contract.Or Cianci to WPRV after 3.Business resuming during the day on 790.I say that because they are still using the word BUSINESS in their slogan.

Who is going to listen to Geraldo and Huckabee? These national shows do not get ratings. Where does Rush get ratings? I guess WPRO can air these programs and get the same 1.0 rating as HJJ. They can leave them on 790 and have the rating go from .8 to 1.0. Now that's creative programming.

For a guy with no ratings, Rush sure pulls in a good salary and decent success. Maybe it proves that there is so little talent out there, that you can be mediocre and still be wildly sucessful in radio. At least that gives some hope to the youth of today who want to work in the business.

Everyone talks about the "poor" state of WPRO-AM yet you want to suggest putting syndicated programming there instead of some live and local talent. Think what you want. You know nothing about radio to even suggest that and furthermore... anyone thinking Cianci or Yorke should be put on WPRV-AM for the remainder of their contracts is insane. (that's you kenwood101) I suggest you zip your lid. From everything I have read you got out of radio... sounds like you can't handle it. Or have no clue and were a total flop.

Um, Excuse me DANRADIO.In TV and radio when a station wants to take a show off the air it usually ends up at 3 am or an undesirable time slot until a contract is full-filled or to chase the show off the air . aka Rossanne Barr's talk show on TV. WJAR one of the sttions put her on at 2am I believe until they can dump it completely.More recently do you remember Conan and the TONIGHT show debacle when NBC wanted to move his Time slot till after mid-night.I was not suggesting to do it. I was thinking of Cumulus cutting staff.YES, It's going to happen.WPRO will eventually cut their live staff. It's only a matter of time.I have learned radio does not make the money it used too.Internet hit the business hard for advertising and music you just load up an I-POD with your favorite song or yet Radio Apps on your cell phone aka IHEART RADIO.Radio stations are struggling to make ends meet now adays. That is why stations are flipping formats. a.k.a. WODS.They are trying to hit an audience that advertisers find attractive. A 63 year old wanting to hear Johney B. Goode by Chuck Berry is not going to go on a weekly shopping spree on thiere 700.00 social security check. As an example A restaurant may want the impulse buyer who's working two jobs in need of a meal and not have time to go home and cook but has the the time to run through a drive thru at Dunkin Donuts for an Ice Coffee and that person hears the spot on the radio while sitting in traffic and thinks what a great idea.I'll have an Ice Coffee and pulls into a DD's fr that coffee.

In another example.Cable companies losing subscribers. We are only in the beginning stages of this.Television now has sub channels that show everything from Music Videos to classic TV and how to make a meat loaf.So why do you need to buy that that higher tier package?NETFLIX HULU and RED BOX taking a HUGE bite of Premium channels. Why do you think these Premium channels are now producing their own shows.Alot of the major cable companies now offer packages under 35.00 a month minus your MTV's and Sports channels to keep some subscribers that they undoubtedly lose so keep them on the hook with 20 cable channels rather than 60.
Back to radio...

Surprisingly, B101 going almost all Voicetracking and dumping most syndicated shows and On-Air staff has the best numbers it has ever had since it came on the air in Dec 1989.The station Bores me to death now at 41 years old but they are pulling in the numbers and I believe knocking Lite out of its top position that has been for years.Numbers equal money when your trying to sell radio ads.
I love local radio but if WPRO cant sustain the $$$ coming in.There will be cuts.GUARANTEED!.As soon as the $$$ is not there they will cut hosts.I know that they would not put Dan or John Depetro on WPRV. I already know this. Yesterday (Friday) John, Depetro had a lady yelling at him on the air on how hard it was for her to get through.John replied with "His call volume is is much higher than any other show on the station".Whether or not thats true.I don't know.John has something they like so they keep him.
Just some examples.I am not saying I am completely right but I do believe I have some good pionts.I NEVER SAY I know everything. So, Please don't go there.
