Geraldo replaces Glenn Beck on NewsTalk 98.7

Does this mean Glenn Beck is moving to 100.3? I can't imagine Geraldo would do well in Knoxville.

They had no choice on Geraldo... it's a Cumulus media product, and they ordered the Beck replacement from ATL. Rush's contract (a Premier/CC product) is up for renewal at the end of the year, and you can bet they'll put their own product (Huckabee) somewhere too.

Be glad South Central beat Cumulus to the punch of getting a second CHR in your market. Otherwise you would have to endure another Cumulus product Perez Hilton. 100.3 could benefit big time if they picked up Rush.

There is lots of talk around town that 100.3 has already passed on 3 of the 4 shows mentioned here---Beck (who makes Joe Biden look stable), Geraldo (who might play well in more liberal areas, such as, say, Morristown, comprende?), and Huckabee. But you can bet WNOX would be on Limbaugh like white on rice. Unless I miss my guess, JP is waiting patiently for the Rush contract with Cumulus to run out. Then, 100.3 gets Rush, Huckabee joins Geraldo on 98.7, and that station stumbles into a future of Oldies or the re-birth of smoooooth jazz. Time will tell, babies.

Also lost in this is Michael Savage. Since he's won his lawsuit against TRN a few weeks ago, he has since pulled his show. 100.3 has since had to fill the 6-9 slow with something called the Jerry Doyle show.

For the size of the stick, NOX has a weak talk lineup. Snagging Rush or Beck could help 100.3 no doubt.

Just my 2 cents

Are the summer ARBs out, or is Team SR using a crytal ball?

If "NOX has a weak talk lineup," it would be nice to see some facts to prove it. Who wins the demo, by dayparts? That would be Men 25-54, would it not? You may be right as far as 12-3PM goes, 'cause there is only ONE Rush, but my guess is that he is the only bright spot at Old Kingston Pike.

Anyone?

Look, im just saying I've been overall disappointed with the product 100.3 has put out. With the Savage show MIA ahead of arguably one of the most heated elections we have seen in some time. That leaves the only real national political show on NOX as Boortz (who's not gonna be around much longer)... Who's only on for 2 hrs.

I would just like to see perhaps another "anchor tenant" on that huge signal.

Again, all just my honest opinion. Sorry I don't have any fancy arb numbers or demos to debate.

There wasn't a lot to write home about in the summer book unless you targeted 12-24 year olds. Not much change for any station that has a core audience over the age of 35.

Keep an eye on WQJK, though. They changed mid-sweeps and saw some immediate boost. It seemed to come at the expense of WWST, the only young skewing station that seemed to lose audience this summer.

Let me add to that. The big story this summer is in the money demos. WIVK continues to slide. WJXB continues to grow. The B is already #1 middays 25-54 and the other dayparts are catching up. In this important demo, 6a to 12m WJXB is less than half a ratings point and less than one share point away from overtaking them.

Mon-Fri, 6a-7p, B 97.5 tied with IVK for the top slot in Adults 25-54. The two talk stations are virtually tied ranking around 8th in adults.

Mike Savage has just signed a contract with Cumulus airing live 9 - 12 ET. Would 98.7 dump Levin for Savage? Would 100.3 pick up Levin?

I have enjoyed listening to Jerry Doyle, Savage's replacement at 6 - 9 on 100.3. Still would like to see Beck replace Boortz when he leaves.

Any other talk show on a station with Rush* is just there to fill in till Rush returns in 21 hours. Does it matter?

* I am not a ditto head but Rush is the "god father" of conservative talk.
