Cumulus says Geraldo Rivera's radio program will air on WABC in New York from 10a-12p beginning January 1st. Cumulus co-COO and Executive Vice President John Dickey said, "We are excited that one of the most recognized and respected names in media will be sharing his perspectives on New York issues and supporting local causes that matter most to listeners in one of our top markets."

Let's clarify this and ask a question:

Geraldo is already on WABC with his syndicated program.

Question: Does this mean they are pulling the syndicated program and only airing him locally? Or is this in addition to the syndicated program?

The program would no longer be available in syndication when this plan for WABC-AM takes effect.

Yes, according to several sources that's what it means. But when was the last time Cumulus kept a local WABC show local?

In real estate when a house doesn't sell you take it off the market for awhile. Then when it's re-listed it gets noticed again and often does great.

I think the immediate plan is to use the show to make WABC appear more "live and local" since WOR will be syndicated much of the day. Then, before long, they'll begin offering it to affiliates as a fresh new show, assuming they can point to good ratings in the #1 market.

Did they re-cycle the Dickey statement from 2 years ago when Geraldo started?? Sounds like their standard BS. Geraldo is not a good radio show and the numbers tell the tale. Incredible!
