Geraldo to KABC

Big mistake, I give him a month

This is really great news for KFI. I hear Rush's ratings have been sagging a bit of late and this is just the jolt of new listeners his show could use right about now.

As for KABC, there is really only one thing to discuss when a ship is sinking - how fast is it going down? This move is the equivalent of gashing into another iceberg which will only make it go down that much faster than it is. But everyone knows this already.

The burning question is: Will John Phillips, America's youngest radio talk show host, leave the building since his show has been reduced to 9a-10a? How embarasing! Not a great vote of confidence on KABC's part!

Yeh, a talk show host based in New York City giving his take on Los Angeles.... That's the ticket.

The "new" KABC liners claim "local and vocal" except for Geraldo, Hannity, and Mark Levin taking up about half of their 6a-12m time.

Yeah and then lets not forget about those redneck truckers they have past midnight. KABC is such a joke. I liked how the press release in the LA times announcing the arrival Geraldo indicated that KABC was 35th in the ratings. I think they must be aiming for 40th place with the changes made.

BTW I heard a liner/spot on KABC heralding Geraldo's impending arrival with a sound bite of Geraldo getting the news about Osama bin Laden's demise, and Geraldo chirped "this is the greatest night of my broadcast career!!!" Good thing he's broadcasting from NY, if he came to LA they'd have to retrofit the door opening so he can fit his head through... geeeeeeez ::)

It is more than a fair point: How can "local and vocal" be applicable to the "new" KABC as half the programs are not local? As wonderful as it is to show John Phillips the door (eventually, one may only hope) by cutting his hours, it does not follow that Geraldo can attune himself to local politics, local news and issues from New York. Notwithstanding his bi-coastal life to 2001, it does not follow that he can know City Hall, know SoCal, the neighborhoods, the class warfare, the transit system, the poverty, etc. from a studio in New York. One wishes him well. And he may (MAY) make a small dent in KABC's dismal ratings - but only for a short time.

Also: Could McIntyre's morning disaster rest at least in part at the doorstep of the exec producer? He also serves or served as Phillips sidekick when Phillips would fill-in for Tilden mornings. Just asking.

How can you have Geraldo talking about Los Angeles issues all the way from New York, when Larry Elder sitting on La Cienga Blvd cannot seem to do it.

J&K covered the story about the police chief proposing not impounding the cars driven by unlicensed drivers on a daily basis leading up to the heavily KFI listener attended public meeting. Larry first covered this story five days after the end of the meeting and I think he managed to blame Obama for this.

Additionally He was re-living (wasting time) the entire OJ Simpson trial yesterday reading a lengthy article written back in 1995. I think he managed to blame Clinton for this.

Honestly, how can Jack Silver sleep at night.

KABC's program schedule http://www.kabc.com/programschedule.asp lists John Philips 3-6 PM, M-F. Misprint or something we don't know yet?

I think it is because John Phillips was sitting in for Larry on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and as typical of KABC they havent' changed it back yet. I think Jack Silver swtiched the times of their web developers to every other week and that is probably why it hasn't been updated.

LOL! Actually I'd be surprised if it's that often ... most stations don't maintain their websites very well ... in fact I've never seen a temporary change in the program listings for a fill-in host.
