Germantown Blues

Anyone here remember the old "Germantown Blues," which used to get airplay over the old Z-103 and other west Tennessee stations back in the '80s? Who sang that, and could I still find it anywhere? Is it on youtube? What about another song he came out with which supposedly poked fun at Frayser, but which I never got to hear, apparently because it was too politically incorrect, or because Frayser residents were too sensitive? Is that enough questions for one thread, or do I need to come up with more? ;D

I did "Stairway to Frayser" ("She can tell by the glow/of the toxic waste's flow/that her stairway has brought her to Fray-hay-sure") back in the 103 days. Fortunately, no copies exist.

As the late, great Jay Boland used to say, "Did you walk to school or carry your lunch?

On a related note...Paul Shanklin, if your're out there...the current Memphis political situation is begging for a treatment of Sweet's "Little Willie"

Myron done chased Willie out of City Hall,
but laugh, Willie, laugh, he don't care at all....

West side, Riverside, little willie willie says it loud - he’s the mayor of this town
Hatin’, baitin’ Willie drives us silly with his willie wiggle hater shakin’ style
Myron done chased Willie out of City Hall
But laugh, Willie, laugh he don’t care at all…

Help me out here. I'm stuck now.

Big 'ol willie, willie won't stay home...
You can't push Willie now, Willie won't go!
Pick another Mayor, but...Whoa, No!
Still willie willie willie won't stay gone!

This is fun, guys! I can't wait to hear it!

Getting this back on topic: ;D

I loved the "Germantown Blues" for two reasons:

1) It was "politically incorrect." When was the last time that something that was "politically incorrect" made it onto the air?

2) It was local programming with a strong local flavor, a local programming decision made locally, something that you just don't get anymore as radio becomes more and more increasingly "nationalized" with each passing year. :'(

I hate that the Doctor mooted this whole situation... I was getting ready to put a track down and play with it. E A and B, literally a three chord song, but a weird bar-chord voicing.

Is it just my backwoods hook-up? Or is anyone else seeing the descriptive words instead of the emoticon symbols? On this page alone, I've seen Grin, Grin, Smiley and Cry. Grunt!

Dang, I was practicing, too. I was gonna hit you up for the rhythm guitar gig.
