Gerry House and CRS

........as Gerry mentioned on his DJ shift till 10, he would be interviewing Garth Brooks to a bunch of "overserved DJs." Gerry, you're not above us. You might be talented AND on XM..........but you're not above us.

House needs to go home. He has over stayed his welcome.

It was a joke. You're listening so he must be doing something right. Home is where you'll be when he is up there interviewing Garth. Hope you like the view.

I've never have been a Gerry House fan, and I've been listening to him on and off since the WSIX-AM days when 980 AM was AC.

What has happen is the excitment of his show has died off. He's not a "shock jock" and can not be, due to where we live, "The Bible Belt"! Now if you were to move Gerry House to a station in NYC, reguardless of format, and he moved to be a "shock jock", he would have huge ratings like Howard Stern once did.

It's the area we live in. People in Tennessee are too conservative and they don't like "dirty radio". That's what's killing Gerry's ratings, NOT his personallity! His voice, delivery, etc. sounds fine on the air, it's the shows content that is killing him. He can't SHOCK you like he could in NYC or in LA!

If Jerry would have the Good Looking Strippers or Hooter Girls on in the morning and talk a little dirty, HELL YA, it would get ratings, but I'm afraid the country music industry like the Alan Jackson's, Garth Brooks, Lori Morgan's would raise hell.

Oh well, Lori Morgan, you suck anyway, and tell George Jones's wife to shut up and stay off of WSIX!

Scott, House worked in Los Angeles mid- to late-80's. IIRC he pulled pretty good numbers against the likes of Dees, and I don't think House used shock or vulgarity then. Unless someone can confirm otherwise.

confusion in two segments:
first...I'm confused. you're not a fan, but you've been listening since the 980 era.

second...you're confused. GH is not doing shock material...and TN people are conservative (all of them?)...
and don't want to hear it anyway. so by your logic...GH should offend all "People In Tennessee" as a shock jock...
and that's the secret to success? Huh?

What have you got growing around your tower and did you just smoke it?

Nock

Simmah down now!
Gerry is an icon. Love him or hate him, he will do this as long as he wants to.
I believe 92.9 is #1 in mornings 25-54 in the fall book but Gerry usually is and deservedly so. If anyone caught his stage show with garth today, then you know why he is amazing. he was more entertaining than garth without actually stealing the show.

And frankly what other morning show could they put in there? Is there any competitor really taking a bite out of Gerry's numbers on a regular basis?

??? I'm not even sure what to write about this. In your posts on KDF, you stated (correctly) that a lot of us migrated from Rock to Country over the years. I did the same, but I would also listen to Gerry regardless of the format. Nothing is killing his ratings - he's doing just fine.

I was joking about Gerry House, geez! He has been doing his thing since a lot of us were born. I don't listen to him because he reminds me of my grandpa. Love him unconditionally, but can only take him in small doses.

The beauty of technology is that I can Ipod my favorite artists and songs and not have to wade through the boring jokes, the lap dog laugh of Bohan or any other of that stuff.

You see, I do listen on occassion. Radio for me is not a religion, it's a entertainment platform that has got some serious competition for the ears of people like me; 29 years old, college educated with 2 degrees and highly compensated in the technology industry.

Yes, I was in radio once, board op for Clear Channel on the weekends. I saw first hand the ruthless way the industry treats it people. I decided early on, I did not want my life dictated by some empty suit in San Antonio who does not have a clue about the impact his decisions have on people's lives. Then that empty suit passes down his edicts to the empty suits on the local level.

So stand down you old farts, just trying to make a joke.

Oh Chris,

Pat Baylock is looking for you! You remember the pirate radio station at the gay club on Murfreesboro Rd? I was standing outside MRO a few days ago and he wanted to know where to find you and George McClintock!

Look Chris, it worked for Stern, so why not Gerry? You go towards Knoxville and what do you see Conservatives. You go towards Memphis, Liberals. We are in the middle! Gerry would do better being a Shock Jock and get people listening that normally don't listen to WSIX. Hell, it would be better than Free Beer & Hot Wings, Rick and Bubba, and John Boy and Bill and thier NASCAR crap, AND.....it would be LOCAL!

I say we send Gerry to NYC to do a show with Howard Stern, and transform him overnight to Nashville's Shock Jock!

HUH? This is one of the most non-sequiterial conversations I've ever seen on this board.

Gerry is a legend, plain and simple. A shock jock? WHA? Have you HEARD this show? It's all about tongue-in-cheek! I don't claim to know Gerry personally, but if you think he'd rather be in NYC (with all due respect to Howard Stern, a legend in his own rite) doing the play-by-play on people putting their tongues in other places besides their cheeks, I think you are sorely mistaken.

As to Gerry and CRS...it is what it is. It's not his favorite place. What CRS has become is even worse than what it was 5 years ago when I started going -- and it was probably bad then. Thousands of radio wannabees who think that getting drunk with their label rep in the Bridge Bar is going to somehow cement their future success in this business. It just isn't the case. Gerry is acutely aware of that, because he managed to cement HIS future success in radio without (in his mind) stooping so low.

It's two different paths, to be sure. I would take Gerry's road in a heartbeat, but...I'm inclined to say that "things just don't work like that anymore".

I'm going to say this about Gerry House and the Nashville Market:

Gerry House is the best on air talent in Nashville that there ever was, in my opinion, PERIOD! You do not have to agree or disagree with me. I hate the format he has to play at WSIX, BUT he sounds good, and much better than Coyote McCloud, Carl P., Scott Shannon, and a few others that have been in and out of this market.

Like I said, you have the right to agree OR disagree with me, and I respect everyone's opinion. This brings me to one person on this board that threw a "FIT" at me because I said that Scott Shannon was not a good sounding jock in my opinion. I have the right to feel that way, nothing personal against the man, I don't know him, but I have the right to feel the way I do.

Since then, this man has acted childish to me, sent me a dirty email on Chirstmas Eve, and I told him I would prefer not to have communication with him anymore. He is a professional in our business, and I was shocked that he could not take criticism from others. That is being childish! Before that happen, I thought he was a nice gentleman.

Like I said, you may like McDonalds and Big Macs, but I don't!
