Gerry House

Maybe Gerry House should have his should have his show syndicated
to San Francisco(if CC decides to flip one of its stations to Country).
He is a GREAT on-air personality and I think people in San Francisco will
like him.

Your thoughts....

He's tried California and he's tried syndication. Neither worked out for him.

It's not my job to defend Gerry...but this time you're 100% wrong there Jet...
on both counts.

Go ahead and defend Gerry, because I'm certainly not trying to dis him. Sometimes I don't explain myself so well in print. I'm not saying he failed at those ventures, I'm saying those opportunities didn't work best FOR HIM. I'm not saying he didn't work out at the station where he was or for the syndicator. But then, maybe I'm trying to guess why you're saying I'm wrong, so if you'd elaborate...

Why would anyone even remotely consider another Country station in SF?

I do think the audience in SF, in general, would be more receptive to Gerry's
sense of humor and style than LA. Not trying to be cute here, either. But,
SF is not a Country market.

The real question Henry should have posted on the SF board is what will CBS do in that
city, since mostly they are not on their game there.

I have never asked Gerry if he'd ever syn again. Would he even consider it, CR?
I doubt CC would force it on him and why mess with their success, unless he wanted
to try it again? I would think SF isn't a market that would be valuable enough with a country
format to push CC to try Gerry there and mess with possibly cutting numbers
here.

I can only guess...but I don't think GH would consider syndication again:
it takes too much away from the WSIX broadcast. I was involved in the Premiere
syndication back in 90-91...and at the time it was pretty cool: the show was buffered on a hard
drive before being uplinked...only about 2-3 minutes or so...but in '90...that was huge.
That eliminated affiliates from having to be exact on their local breaks. The show was on about 16
affiliates...including Denver and SF...and the rest medium/small markets. The story I heard is that
Premiere pulled the plug because affiliates left after attracting some decent numbers...and local is
always better. As for GH in LA...he went to KLAC...did well...was moved to KZLA...did better...but
was offered "such a deal" to return to Nashville in 1987. I understand that WSIX was close to going
classic rock had GH not returned...but that may be so much BS.

I listened a few minutes the second day WSIX was on XM. It sounded to me like he didn't really want to be on XM. He didn't say it; But it sounded as if he would rather be syndicated than be on XM. Of course I could be wrong.

You know, some people just don't wanna mess with success. Gerry is smart enough and been through
enough to know his comfort level. You have to respect him for his focus on what makes him happy vs.
trying to take over the world. It probably keeps him being who he is --- a good guy with a lot of
talent and respectful of who brought him to the dance. Similar to Dan Miller's chances of going national
again...plus, I gotta think he respects radio vs. all that trying to take radio away. Most of this is
just my guess, except that he's a really decent person, which I have to say is fact IMHO. I'd
dunno about that Romer guy, though. ;D CR, am I close here or off base?

I'm not Chris Romer, and I've never met Gerry House, but I can relate this story. When WSM's Bill Cody was in the hosapital a few years back with some serious health problems, one of the first calls he recieved was from the aforementioned Mr. House inquiring as to the condition of his health and if there was anything he could do for Bill or his family. You don't usually get a call like that from the competiton. I, on the other hand, asked if I could have his car if he died,

Something about that doesn't really surprise me. A few other CC hosts like Mike McConnell seem to have similar opinions. However, if he or the station doesn't want to be on XM, why don't they just request Clear Channel remove it from XM? I'm sure they could fill the slot. Heck, WLW is on XM, and they've embraced it to the point where they bring it up on-air and call themselves "The Nation's Station."

Meanwhile on the other end, some local Clear Channel hosts who were taken off XM were very pissed off about it, and were still bitching weeks after they were off it.

whether WSIX is on XM or not is decided somewhere other than Nashville:
that call is made somewhere between DC and San Antonio.

personally, I think it's pretty damn cool to be on XM, although it doesn't really
help the station (other than the occasional Nashvillian that calls in from WAY outta town)

I've had calls from Seattle, Key West, Long Island, New Mexico, West Virginia,
and northern California in the last week.

Actually this phrase originates from the time (the 1930's) when WLW was able to cover the US ( and most of the Northern Hemisphere) not witrh satellite technology, but with the 500,000 watts amplifier at the Mason, OH transmitter site....
Now back to our regularly scheduled discussion.

and the operators at the electric company could watch
meters showing how much power was being used...bounce...like a modulation meter

Well figuratively, if the WSIX doesn't like it, couldn't management just bug Clear Channel to pull the station off? It's their bandwidth, and they get no compensation for it. Then CC could just say "Who wants dibs?!" to all their other stations. Or is it a situation where CC is saying "We put you on XM and you're gonna STAY on XM!"

Good ol' W8XO. I was aware of that, but they've pulled it out of retirement for their XM venture.
