Gerry V should NOT have been involved with "United Radio"

I cannot believe that this arrogant piece of garbage was allowed to be part of the so called "United Radio Broadcasters of New Orleans". He showed what a pompous loser he is back in December of 2004 with that incident with Tim Floyd, when Gerry was on one of his usual rants about Tim Floyd sucked (much to the intentions of George Shinn--but I don't want to turn this into a sports board), and then he called Eric Asher and then co-host Justin Gutierrez "Fatso" and "Fruit Loops."

I am tired of how this idiot says that we should believe he has the best radio show in the NOLA market just because he SAYS that he has the best radio show in the area. What an imbecile! Comparing his show with political shows. Yeah, I know people are fumed with WWL and they go off saying how Gerry is the best (mainly because he is up against Kenny and Bobby), but it's ridiculous they try to force their opinions on other people that Gerry is the only good sports show in the city.

And I love how his supporters say he is so friendly, welcoming on his show and NEVER cuts anybody off???? They obviously put plugs in their ears whenever he cuts anybody off. He is quicker to cut people off than Buddy D was. Gerry gets angry when you don't listen to his argument, and even when he allots you time for your side of the argument, he will suddenly jump back in and take the spotlight and if you interrupt him, you get cut off. His attitude of taking sports so d*mn seriously is EXACTLY what screwed over the N.O. area. Sportstalk is for RELAXATION and ENJOYMENT. Many people who listen are just getting off of work. And after exercising their brains at a REAL job, they don't need to be put through the BS that Gerry does.

This fool steps up and defends Hornets coach Byron Scott after Scott's support of Shinn staying in OKC. Byron just complains and complains about how his players have had it rough, when there are people to this day that have not yet received a FEMA trailer and have no way of returning to the area to rebuild their homes.

This jerk has bragged about how his home in River Ridge was mostly unscathed and didn't flood. How Harahan and River Ridge have made "so much progress"--and never giving Metairie and north Kenner credit after the devastation it suffered from Aaron Broussard's flood(Metairie and north Kenner suffered WAY MORE damage that Harahan/River Ridge). He and Byron will NEVER understand the loss that tens of thousands of people along the Gulf Coast have endured.

Oh, by the way, did anyone hear John Marie on Biz Radio 990 AM report a while back (right after Byron's pro-OKC comments) that Byron's house in the Chateau Estates subdivision in Kenner was STILL boarded up? Poor Byron, you've been catered to so much that you can't even spend just a few minutes of your life ripping storm protection boards off your home. You wuss.

I love how he says he is a true New Orleanian, yet he goes on his precious trips to OKC. He hasn't attacked Shinn for putting that "OKC" hexagon patch on the top of the jersey on the players' right side of the jersey and for removing "New Orleans" from the home jersey/uniform.

You all remember when Gerry was on the Friday night 1 week before Hurricane Rita with Vince Marinello---They had Aaron Broussard on that night? And sure enough, they jock-smooched Broussard on the radio in the first few minutes of the conversation. They let him get away with how he wondered if Vince and Gerry had ever crossed career paths (Gerry calling horse races and Vince calling basketball) and they just laughed on and on while I was displaced hundreds of miles from my locked-up, flooded, molded home, which was just one among thousands on the eastbank. Gerry is another one of those "government-media complex" agents, to quote Michael Savage, always befriending politicians and saying how they're "nice guys." This is something that screwed over NOLA pretty hard, too.

When he comes back on the air after Thanksgiving, he talked about how Clear Channel "worked so hard" during United Radio, NEVER giving credit to Entercom and WWL.

Had it not been for the fact that Entercom does not own any radio stations in Baton Rouge, the Clear Channel fools (including Gerry) would NOT have been involved in the partnership. I don't know who to blame for Gerry's participation in this--whether former Gov Foster for trying to lure the Hornets here, for Clear Channel changing 1280 from sports to blues a few years ago, or for Mike Costello letting them get away. If any one of those three scenarios never happened, Gerry would not have been involved.

And this "United Radio" thing is/was a joke. Where were the Citadel stations, along with locally-operated stations like 690 and 990? Why is it just the big corporate bigwigs who get to be in charge of everything, like hurricane management info?

Shame, shame, shame

The morning of Tuesday August 30th, 690 offered our staff to 870 to assist in anyway that we possibly could, including the use of our studio, phone lines, people, etc...anything that was needed. Obviously we were not taken up on our offer, nor we're we given a reason why.

The entire effort on the part of Clear Channel and Entercom was a good example of serving the public interest. Even though it sounded like it was all WWL, having the air staffs of both companies participating and co-hosting was a great effort while many of both companies facilities were down. Citadel chose not to participate for reasons known only to them.

Gerry V is actually a very decent guy, he's just a New Yorker, and if you don't understand New Yorkers they can rub you the wrong way.

Dick Lewis won a Radio Wayne award for his management efforts, plus a promotion to the New Orleans Market Manager Position.

What did the people that actually did the work get. A couple of comp days?

Lewis was already regional VP with New Orleans under his watch. I wouldn't call his move to New Orleans a promotion. He had it pretty cushy in Baton Rouge which now has 100k additional New Orleans people there.

The people that actually did the work got to keep their jobs. Well, most of them anyway.
