Take a look at this playlist, a part of XM's IT programming where they play nearly every Top 100 charting hit of a decade. IT for the 40s is on 40s on 4, the 50s on 5 and the 60s on 6 and 70s on 7, etc.
They go from the 1920s to 2006.

You can change the IT60s to IT70s and see other lists..

1930s-1940s

Look through that list and recognize a lot of songs I'd nearly forgotten.
Big hits that deserve SOME play today.

If traditional radio played even a fraction of these songs it would sound soooooooooooo much better.

Post that I'm just bitchin' and bitter. It's my opinion and I'm stickin' with it.

Oh, I"M STICKIN WITH YOU, from JIMMY BOWEN, a bit hit in the late 50s, won't get played on radio.

Do you still have these decade charts on PDF?

Your links aren't working for me. XM used to do "IT" before the merger with Sirius.
Are they bringing it back? If so, when?

Guys, please know that, although my heart is with you, I must tell you that if a real radio station played that stuff, they'd be dark in 3 months...uhh...maybe 4. Sorry, I don't want it to be true, but it is. This is a lesson I didn't want to learn and didn't believe to be true for a long time (lol), but if there's one thing that over 30 years in radio has taught me it is this: generally speaking, most people want to hear the hits....PERIOD! ???

why is this not the case on the net.....the best station on live 365.com is "Dianaj Golden Oldies" is the opposite of your comment..as she was voted best of the best on live 365.com..since she got there several years ago and hasn't been displaced yet...... this may not be a cash cow yet , but will eventaully be the death of Commercial Radio, my friends new car has an I-pod port, flash drive port, Satellite stations..why is that I wonder, because the perceived Ignorant audience that incompetent consultants and PD's have for years been telling them "what they want to hear" and they are fed up and revolting "WE are mad as hell- and we aren't taking It anymore"...Beware of the "Ides Of March"...cause this is the new "Vehicle". All the consultants will be jumping off the the Tallahatchie Bridge....at least one who would hope...EXCLAMATION.

Yes it's true from a Advertisement -terrestrial stand point....but not on a Internet/Pandora stand point. Yes it's true, people want to hear the hits...I want to hear the hits....but not on a Clear Channel 400 playlist stand point when it comes to oldies , Hot or AC , or non- current CHR standpoint.

I think that there are two seperate audiences for "oldies" music. One audience remembers the music as it was played on Top 40 radio "back in the day". The other audience was created by Oldies radio over the years through "research" and consultants. That's a younger audience, and it has very limited knowledge of the music. Commercial Oldies radio wants the younger audience..............that's wht they have very limited playlists.
