If this isn't a stunt get over it. I am not a fan of spanish music either, but if no one listens to it then eventually Clear Channel will be forced to flip again. If you don't like it then don't listen simple as that
 
I often look around this board, but I never really post. Here's my take on this whole thing (not like anyone asked):
-Philly's 12+ hispanic population is only 5%. But they will pull listeners in from the suburbs (NJ, N and W suburbs) and the lehigh valley, so I think the numbers will eventually come.
-They're music collection is somewhat limited (I started listening just after the flip and I have heard at least 1 song twice already and a couple of cuts from the same CD), but they seem to be slowly expanding it as we speak (started all salsa and merengue, but have mixed in some cumbia and now reggaeton as well).
-It seems that they have spent some time and money on bumpers, production, etc. for it to be just a stunt (The even have a message from a marketing director (hispanic name) talking about how this is the day the hispanic culture gets their own radio station in FM [taking a shot at 1310 AM??]).
-Pretty dissapointing to see the amount of hate being showed on these boards just because there's a new spanish station in town. Seriously, with so many other stations on the dial (plus XM, Sirius, iPods, etc.) if you don't like it (or are not part of their demo), switch to something more suitable for your taste.

I do hope the format lasts (being a 30-something male, born and raised in PR until I was 17), but who knows.
 
I dont mean any disrespect or hate by my posting here. I just am not a fan of the music. To each his own, if you like the music then by all means listen to the station and for your sake I hope it lasts. For my own selfish reason I hope they flip it again to alternative
 
I appologize if you thought I was attacking you because of your post. I agree with what you said and didn't think you were "spreading the hate". However, other people posting in some of the other threads are.
 
Don't care for the station at all so I won't be listening to it. I think it will last as long as the Point, aand that did not last long.

The key: If you hate the station, move on and just don't worry about 104.5, consider it DEAD until they change the format to better music.
 
Ok, so there is 5% Hispanic population in Philly. The will never get all of them for a 5 share so they can hope at best for maybe mid 3s. The power ratio of spanish formatted stations is very low, meaning that say an ac with low 2s would make more money than Rumba with mid 3s. What I see is that CC will make much less money with Rumba then what they did with Sunny. It just doesn't make $ense.

Also this take away a little from q, who needs all they can get. The new 1061 needs the extra listeners too.


Seems this is real, but a very bad choice for CC.
 
well as far as Puerto Ricans, this is not counting all Hispanics .. only puerto ricans...

146,856 in philly
57,013 in Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, PA. still not much but in allentown there's only little over 100,000 .. also in surrounding areas there are more puerto ricans...
 
you gotta count illegals too. 5% of the COUNTED population is HIspanic...the illegals are there and they do spend money

I agree. Furthermore, most of that 5% are Puerto Ricans who speak English as well as Spanish AND most will STILL listen to English speaking radio. If they get 40% of the latino population in the market to listen to this (and that includes S. NJ, DE and the other supposedly strong latino areas mentioned in another post), it will be a miracle. And, that would result in a 12+ rating of 2.0. It is the best that this station can do. An absolutely ridiculous choice - perhaps it was even politically motivated in some way. Because it shows piss poor business sense to dedicate a full-market signal to such a narrow group - and a group that has repeatedly produced lousy power ratios.

Someone please tell me how rock would have been inferior to this!?

And, by the way, being against having a Spanish station in an English speaking section of an English speaking nation is NOT "hate speech". More dangerous are those who slap that label (or worse, the "r" word) on people in order to squelch free speech. Having a Spanish station in the Philly market is silly.

Different markets, aren't they? If you feel that way, why not call Nassau and ask them to change Frank 107.5 to Franco ciento siete punto cinco? At least that station would reach THOSE Puerto Ricans.

well i live in Lehigh Valley and all I listen to is philly stations. nassau is makin too much money off these old white folk wit there classic rock stations which i hate with a passion the only station in allentown i even give a listen to is prolly B104. but they lean too much Hot AC for me...
