Get rid of fire ants

On Saturday morning I was in the car just trying to find something that wasn't annoying. At one time, "oldies" meant a relatively soft station, but Majic was running commercials with Led Zeppelin and Journey. I know the Journey commercial was for a concert.

I finally landed on K-104.7 and even though it was a commercial break I just stayed there. It was worth it because I heard one fo the funniest radio commercials I ever heard. It was about a product to get rid of fire ants. I don't know specifically how one listens to a radio commercial other than waiting for a commercial break and hoping it's there, but this one's a classic.

The name of the product is Orthene. I haven't heard the commercial since.

WYLT in Raleigh used to have a pest control commercial with an Arnold Scwarznegger soundalike. Also very funny.

must be hard to get fire ants out of a chimp's coat

Argentine Fire Ants are the worst! My pest control man "quietly" got rid of some I had in the yard once. Had to quietly get rid of them, as a mile radius was cordoned off and quarantined in another town because of them. LOL. Just feed those bugs and let them take the stuff into their hole in the ground to feed the queen. They'll go away.

Chlorodane....banned by the EPA since 1988.
when i learned of the legislation, i got 7 gallons.
no fire ants for 1/4 miles. my neighbors think
i'm a wizard. well....how about a Whizzard?

Oddly enough chlordane is still permissible for commercial use.

The things we learn on the Charlotte board! "Small Things Considered." I'll take a lake effect snowfall over fire ants any day. Those bad boys sound nasty. At least snow melts. Sometime. Usually in June. I'm kidding.

Getting back to the commercials.

Isn't it great when you can run a stopset with good, well-produced, well-written and even funny spots? Makes you feel like you hit a TSL homerun. Until you follow the stopset with some song that's burned out worse than a bucket of Buffalo wings with suicide sauce. Your listeners stayed through the stopsets just to hear... Margaritaville? --- Again?

You can almost feel them reaching for the scan button.

If you are that discerning that you can almost feel them changing the channel then you care a great deal about your career. Good on ya.

I always liked doing commercial production. After I got out of radio it was a bummer to think the things I worked so hard on were the things that made listeners hit the scan button!
