Get Rush Limbaugh off of KTTH radio: The Petition

http://www.signon.org/sign/get-rush-limbaugh-off-21

If you thought this whole Rush Limbaugh controversy was just going to blow over and everybody would soon forget it and go back to tweeting about The Hunger Games, I have news.....

Here's an interesting question: If a station got a nearly 5,000 signature petition demanding a LOCAL air personality be dropped, how long would it take before THAT person was canned?

Interesting......

Honestly, other than here at RI, I haven't seen a thing about El Rushbo in the newspapers, online, or on the radio...........

I think it has blown over for the most part.

My question is how many of them actually listen?

During the Dixie Chick fiasco, country radio stations were inundated by callers demanding that they ban the Chicks. Later, we found out they weren't country radio listeners, but talk radio listeners, told to call radio stations by conservative hosts. Most of the callers didn't know who the Chicks were, but they knew what they said. I'm sure a lot of the same are signing this petition.

People in this country want to control the conversation, and tell folks they don't agree with to shut up. That's not what democracy is about.

Easiest way is to simply not listen (e.g., like KVI and their Oldies experiment)

Now that's just crazy talk. ;)

Seriously, I swear I've heard for years if you don't like so-and-so, turn the channel. Now it's astroturfed messages galore.

Occasionally I tune in Rush to hear what the guy says, but mostly I am on the other side of the dial, AM 1090, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Norman Goldman.

As a sometimes Rush listener, it never occurred to me to try to get radio hosts whom I don't listen to or like removed from the air. Censorship?

And that is the honest truth!

Its sad that an opposing viewpoint can't be seen as a normal part of life anymore. Talk radio has in some ways helped to contribute to this polarization of people, although no one seems to make a choice for themselves to just let someone else have their own view, even if they don't agree with it. There are now a couple of camps that dig their heels in so deeply and insist they are the only ones who are right or have the right to hear their opinion heard. It serves no good purpose.

I don't particularly care for Rush Limbaugh, and my opinion of what he said is that it was wrong, but to want to ban him from the airwaves? Never. That is about as un-American as you can get. My radio still has two knobs...........

Actually, that is precisely what Limbaugh and his many imitators do, hour after hour, on the majority of AM signals in the USA. And anybody who disagrees is kept off the air. from the phone screeners, to the content decision makers at the handful of corporations that are now allowed to control all the best signals nationwide. (See today's lead article in the Radio-Info news postings about the Clear Channel CEO's comments, to underscore my point.)
Limbaugh actually shouts on the air at people he vilifies to "shut up", for God's sake. And THAT's not what democracy is about - that is what paid-to-play propaganda is about. I think what the issue the petitioners are addressing is accountability to the public -- all of us -- for the lies and vitriol that pass as "honest opinions" and that fill up the public airwaves.

Irony is completely lost on the fundamentalist "obey or get out" crowd, ain't it?

Do you know how many radio talk hosts called Geroge W. Bush "Hitler", "The Anti Christ" and many others to name a few? MANY and often. Some on national television as well. No one held their feet to the fire and wanted them off the air.

He apologized, let it go! And remember people in the infamous words from Tom Leykus, "It's all about ratings."

The beauty of radio is you have a choice, limiting choice limits radio. I have heard much worse than Rush from Savage, Levin, Schultz and others. The publicity generated by this is actually increasing tune in to Rush. He was becoming a non-factor and this has made Rush front page again. Vote with the button on your radio!

I am one of those old white conservatives from Bellevue.... I like Rush, but I hate "The Truth".... just that name turns me off. I only listen to Newsline on KOMO, even with Ken Schram, because I think it is just really good radio.
