Get UCF baseball/basketball off of 740!

[sarcasm]

I just love how when I try to tune into "Petros & Money," I instead get a UCF meaningless basketball or baseball game.

[/sarcasm]

UCF football is fine, but nobody cares about either of the other two. Re-negotiate the deal with ISP and UCF and move those two sports over to one of Clear Channel's "all-brokered" stations.

They don't have any "all brokered" stations anywhere near here. Two AMs - both 50K watts - 540 and 740 - and five FMs. Play by play UCF sports are really bad I agree but the almighty dollar will always drive CC, no matter what it sounds like.

Back in the thread about WDBO, when I said the AM should go all-sports, this is a prime example of why 740 never has any ratings.

Aside from that, you actually listen to Petros & Money? I can take maybe 5 minutes of them, tops...

Not living there, does 89.9 carry said sports? And if so, you will know the obvious next question....

cd

Play by play sports is tough with a college like UCF. There has been little success to breed large fan bases like the Gators and Seminoles have, and Orlando has such a large non-native population there are few born and bred local fans. Just alot of stuff working against it.

Basketball and baseball do have a presence. Basketball is going to the Big East (the best conference in the nation, usually) in 2013, and earlier in the year they defeated UConn.

Baseball is ranked, in the top 20 of most national polls.

I honestly see nothing wrong with having the basketball and baseball on 740. After all, it is a sports station. I prefer the Magic broadcasts but to each his own. I also enjoy the play by play announcer for the Gators as well.

They WILL have a presence - they don't now. They are in a no name conference now and have been for years. It is also not as long term as the other schools. The school itself was FTU until the late 70's I think, so it is not on par with the Gators and Seminoles, and it really isn't even that close right now.

Since we are talking about right now, the overabundance of play by play is a tough sell without the large following the other schools have.

The sales staff has to somehow find alumni who are business owners.... if the University was on the ball (or the Alumni Association) they could probably help with that to some extent...

I would have to think that ISP or UCF is guaranteeing Clear Channel something right now or Clear Channel wouldn't be airing the games. I am fairly sure it was that way in years gone by as the complaint and discussion about this is not new. With that many players involved, who knows who is paying who what at this point.

I, like the vast majority of Orlando residents, am a transplant and have no ties to UCF, the Magic, or the Buccaneers/Rays/Lightning.

I, as a transplant, would rather listen to out-of-market scores and headlines from a nationally syndicated show than listen to a UCF baseball game PBP.

You are right Partimer. But they also want listeners - therein lies the rub.

I'd rather listen to anything other than the dreadful Petros and Money, so even small-conference baseball is preferable.

Children screaming at each other is less annoying and more informative than those two.
