Getting A Rangemaster To Sound Really Good

Well, I had heard great comments about the Talking House transmitter, especially the newer models, but it's a bit of a complicated scenario, as it turns out. I had to get mine upgraded to get it to sound better than the tin can it originally sounded like, and it's pretty good now, especially with a little EQ.

I always listen to the Gulch when I'm in Jerome. You're years ahead of me with your progress. I'm in Camp Verde, on 1620, but only on occasionally for now, but hopefully full time by year's end.

The original Talking House "basic" model, be it from Radio Systems or the previous manufacturer, Broadcast Marketing LLC, have speech quality audio. The team over at Radio System designed the audio update for the enhanced i.AM.Radio version of the transmitter to improve its audio quality. When I did the equipment evaluation and video review of the i.AM.Radio transmitter it was prior to them making some very measurable improvements to the audio quality and modulation. I need to update the video to reflect those changes when I get some time.

You are correct Bill. Speech quality audio which was sufficient for their market at that time. Lots of confusion over those transmitters. They sell both of them on their web site, the basic model and the upgraded one. I had the TH5.0 which was the latest version of the basic one, but that one can be upgraded for better sound. Older ones can not. It's like night and day.

It is amazing what the Gulch had done with their Rangemaster, but from what I am reading, a lot of work has been done to make that happen. Fascinating stuff. I could hear their transmitter from about 6 miles away today. Of course it helps that they're 2000 feet above the valley below.

Hey - thanks David for the nice words.

It's nice to know that there is someone else doing micro-broadcasting here in the Verde Valley. I'll check out 1620 next time I'm in Camp Verde and hope to catch you on the air. Thanks for tuning us in.

Still working on the audio, going to add an Ashly equalizer I got on ebay into the mix on Saturday. I've been experimenting with recording our signal and then running it through the computer and adjusting the sound with a digital equalizer - you can make some dramatic changes to the sound, we'll see how that works in real life.
