Is there a trick to getting better reception, in my car, of 101.5 WOBN?

Also, do they offer an internet stream?...

Thanks

There's not much you can do. Their 28 watts of horizontally polarized signal isn't improved by vertically polarized car antennas either. Your best hope would be a really sensitive tuner like a Pioneer SuperTuner. DX'ers like them a lot.
I've heard they have more support now than the past but apparently not enough to pay for a stream or a signal upgrade like circular polarization.
How far away are you trying to receive them?

I just called the station...no they are not streaming, and don't have any plans in the near future (it's probably has something to do with Otterbein giving them bandwidth). Now Otterbein just bought a building down near the main fire station/water plant that the radio and TV stations will be moving to, so hopefully they can add streaming then, and spend the money to look into changing frequency/power increase at the same time. They sure would give a lot of stations in this town a good run if they can get that power up!

I suspect part of the reason their not streaming is the roryalties cost (ASCAP/BMI/SESAC and SoundExchange) the latter being the most expensive. I beleive they used to stream years ago before the RIAA/Sound Exchange whole roryalties thing came down.

There are off site sources they can send the stream too if they chose to stream, streamguys, Puremix, and many other providers of shoutcast bandwidth/WMA bandwidth they could use to stream and it would not lag the universities bandwidth. I suspect the roryalty costs are probally the biggest issue.

Cool station though, I am up in North Columbus/Westerville Area often and tune in!

Well they are already paying the ASCAP/BMI/SESAC fees because they are a radio station, but the added fees to stream is probably the real reason they aren't, and no way Otterbein will pay for WOBN to stream. The TV station has better equipment than WOBN because they get their money from the City of Westerville, where WOBN gets their money from Otterbein. Otterbein is still missing out a great way to promote the school by not putting more money into the station that sounds good and upgrading that signal (looking at their coverage map the station doesn't even cover Westerville anymore!).

Thanks everyone for the follow up.
I live over off of Roberts Rd (Hilliard) area. I can pick them up only
when I'm driving around near where I work (Tuttle area). What I have heard,
I liked a lot. I think they could definitely give other stations a run
for their money (CD101), like someone else said. Although, the only other
music station that I have tuned on my FM dial besides 101.5 is 101.1.

Too bad internet streaming isn't popular yet, I could stream WOXY.com in my car!

:)

You sound like an alum. I'm an alum of both WOBN (from its 105.7 days) and WOCC-TV, but spent more time on the TV side. I know when I was on campus, there were rumors of occasional boosts beyond the legal ERP during important sporting events. That probably helped the coverage.

That TV money from the city was a great thing. We used it to buy a lot of nice equipment that we hauled over to the schools and gained some great experience with live sports. It was a real win-win arrangement. Westerville ended up with a livelier PEG channel than any of the Columbus PEG channels.

Yes I am an alumni, but there are a lot of radio and TV people in this market that are Otterbein Alumni. WOBN has so much potential in this market but with 10 watts they can only do so much. That deal with Otterbein and Westerville for WOCC does make it one of the best PEG channels around...Westerville's money and Otterbein students running and producing.
