Getting permission to play Foreign records in the U.S

Is it as easy as contacting the artists and lablels, or will that still violate U.S rules... Their sure are alot of rules to follow, its not as easy as just a monthly fee, and play whatever you want.. Im thinking about giving up, but not just yet. Loud City is really strict,, although its cheaper than the 80 a month im popping out now, but according to some websites, im still not legal. as Im not supposed to like,, play a whole Mix CD front to back, and not play more than 2 songs back to back from the same artist.. If im still not legal and cant seem to get that way, I may as well just be a web pirate again,, and well,,, fire up the FM while im at it.... although I dont have a TX right now.... The last two remarks were sarcasm by the way.

Just play them, following the DMCA rules of no more than 3 songs by the same artist in a 3 hour period.

I dont have a prob with that DMCA rule, its the fact that you cant play songs from the same CD for so long... Well if its a various artist CD, whats the problem with that.Webcasting restrictions are strict in the U.S.. I think if I pay the monthly bill I should be able to play whatever I want.. The way I have it set up... I dont use music scheduling software, so I have to space everything it in winamp and loop it,, cant even shuffle it cause it may vilolate the DMCA rules.

I may do something really small and simple like the live 365 5.95 package, but I dont like that listeners have to subscribe to listen, unless your below your VIP slots, which is only 3. I wonder what package the ORIGINAL HOT 97 used.. What package do I need to where non subscribers can listen without the adds. 64k really isnt too bad, but the playlists are pretty limited and looped, but thats the same as me now, so i may as well pay next to nothing and let them deal with roylalties... YES???

The Original Hot 97 signed on Live365 as a Pro station so they entered at the highest level. If you are really concerned about the Ads then you will have to enter at the Pro level as well. That entails you paying for not just your streaming costs but all of your royalties on your own and doing the direct licensing. The easiest way to get started with Live365 is to take a package that costs from $29 - $50 a month depending on your budget and let them handle the royalty costs by running the commercials. For the times that you are "Live" they don't run commercials. When you are using "Basic" they will. Bottom line, people will still listen with the commercials.

Also, if you are using a compliation album just tag your album ID tag as "Single" or "Promo Single" and you'll be good to go. That will clear the DMCA filters.

"Radio Edit" under the album ID also clears the DMCA filter. Didn't have any conflicts with the 4+ years on Live365.

JP would the 9.95 a month plan keep out coms as long as I stay live 24/7?

Yes. But they are updating their systems so that if your broadcast fails (internet outage, etc) it will kick over to a default playlist of tracks you upload to their server. That playlist would allow for commercials.

On any of their plans if you go live you only have half the listening slots that you would have if you broadcast in Basic. It's a fair deal as they are paying for your royalties on these plans. Here is their order page for details on their plans.

Im paying alot right now in royalties and servers from centova cast, and I heard if I get more listeners above 25 slots, my price will go up... I have no fear of that happening anytime soon.
