Ghost Town

Really quiet here-- NDXUFAN don't you want to complain about WDJO? ClassX Guys-- feel a longing to slam commercial radio?

How bout 2 weeks in format for a horrible sounding 100.3 yet they nab a respectable cume and share? Does that make the "Angry Guys" extra angry?

How come Indy has 2 awesome country stations and we have 4 (or more) so-so stations?

How many different ways can traffic reporters mispronounce Cincinnati street names?

Will we finally get some Savage?

Will anyone fix 3 day old weather and news casts on fringe AM stations?

WEBN sounds good again--- 96 Rock--- ummmm. (but WTHeck was up with the fireworks soundtrack?)

It's September--- time for Star to flip to Christmas?

And Does the "Cut-Man" prep for Bengals Pregame or just stumble in and hit the "mic on" button-- Man, I miss Furball and Co on Sunday Morning Sports Talk from Caddys...

Sorry for the ramble-- carry on...

Typical boring Cincinnati Radio. We need some fresh programming. If you ask WEBN Management the fireworks soundtrack was the greatest. The Traffic reports are canned from Cleveland same as this years fireworks soundtrack. 96Rock is not bad although their signal does not cover the full market.

4 Country in Cincinnati stations and we can't support an FM sports format. Is WDJO still on? Savage is syndicated through Cumulus I doubt We will hear him on the old AM dial soon unless someone buys 1320 AM or 1480 and can add a FM translator.

100.3 is nothing more than a IPOD and cheap to run. As long as it brings in ratings it will be a success for Radio One. Bengals Pregame programming is as bad as the team except for Ken Broo. ClassX at least serves the community and if you are tired of the same AC/DC songs they are fun to listen to.

Ha - Trouble Maker! Don't get me started!

I think it has something to do with the new format of Radio Discussions. IMO it is not as clean or straightforward in design. Annoying.
Furthermore, it took me a while to sign on. There was a username and password problem. If the others are having the same problem, they probably just gave up and went away.
Radio Ones DNA is music. Not surprised to see 100.3 resume their position with the new (familiar) format. Sometimes, all you're going to get, numbers wise, is what you're getting and you have to adjust your rates and expenses accordingly. Not everyone can be number one. Some will have to figure out how to survive as number 20 or 30. Some formats will always be niche. You can try to compete, head on with another station and live under the delusion that you'll steal ALL of their audience. Not gonna happen.

Yeah the only reason I was finally able to post is cuz I was bored at work last weekend and decided to try one more time and it finally took.

I would rather slit my wrists than listen to instrumental elevator music, but if someone makes a stab at a smooth jazz format I'll wish them well. Vocals with no instrumentals? THAT I'd listen to.

I listen to 100.3 a lot. No personality and quite a few songs my old white self doesn't know, but the tunes I know I like a lot.

I'm hoping that SOMEDAY an FM talk station will make it here. Not ALL sports because that's just boring. Some sports, some pop culture, VERY little politics....yeah I'm down for that.

AM radio will die in my lifetime, sad to say. Music on FM probably isn't long for the world either as the audience moves to other platforms, but talk can survive...maybe. Still a couple of generations away though, IMO.

For some reason this site was blocked for a few months by our firewall but now works again.

Anyway, in general I was starting to really like having a sports station on FM. Obviously they hired too many people too quickly, at least that is what I assume happened, and could not afford to wait for an audience. The signal strength sucked no doubt. Does anyone have any idea of when and where Rome might return to Cincinnati or even Dayton airwaves? I can find it streaming but I want it on my radio again.

As far as the general radio landscape, I live in between Cin and Dayton, and really enjoy receiving 106.3 and 103.9 as an alternative to the big players like 96.5, EBN, etc. The signal for 106.3 is scattered to say the least, one block it might be perfect then scratch the next. Any idea if they might somehow get a signal boost or are they just not big enough? My kids really like 107.1 and 101.9 and so do I for the most part, good mix of hits and an occasional jump back in the past. So on FM, 106.3 103.9 107.1 and 101.9 are the only 4 stations I listen to regularly. I do sometimes listen to TUE on sunny weekends just because it brings out some nostalgia. I spend at least 2 hours in the car per day, sometimes 3-4 hours so I welcome any ventures on the airwaves! I pass on playlists on mp3's etc, rather have a radio on man.

96ROCK actually has a very good signal. I've read online posts from Dayton listeners that listen to them now instead of WXEG. I can pick it up to the north all the way past Jeffersonville, Ohio.

And the only reason WEBN "sounds good" is because when they fell behind 96ROCK in the ratings last year, they started updating their playlist. It's pretty much the same playlist as 96ROCK now. A lot of the currents you hear on WEBN were FIRST played on 96ROCK. My only issue with 96ROCK is them trying to appeal to both the alternative listeners AND the people that prefer the harder music. Makes for a weird playlist.

If AM is going to die, then why does Clear Channel hold possession of licenses? I get so tired of hearing this rhetoric. It makes money. Period. It serves the public. If a storm rolls through, what local radio station is THE station most are tuned to? Isn't WLW also the primary EBS (sorry old school here) station?

They hold them so that they don't get any competition from anyone. They have the only commercial news / talk /sports station in town, and they're not gonna let anyone try to compete with them with the mentioned formats. It's also about money. Even if 1360 and 1530 have low ratings, Clear Channel is still making revenue off them.

Just like Wal Mart. Their stores in rural areas don't make as much as the stores in urban areas do. CC can do the same. WLW brings in the most revenue in the market and that pays for their lower rated stations in the cluster. I'm sure they make enough off of 1360 and 1530 to pay the electric bill and maintenance it takes to keep them on the air. I predict you'll see in the next 5 yrs a huge sell off or bankruptcy because CC has to service their debt.

Marty:

I report what happens at 'DJO, good or bad. I do not "hate" WDJO. I will see what is going on at the station.

NDXU--- your skin is too thin--- Just trying to get some life here--- Thanks RockNuts for taking it the way it was intended!--- I forgot to ask why Cincinnati Edition on WVXU is so bad--- you would think they could find enough local topics for fill an hour yet we continue to get NPR and PRI retread stories each day

I'll half-gripe about Cincinnati radio... Last week I had a rental car with SiriusXM. And coming back to Cincy terrestrial radio, it's been hard to find much that's very interesting. I realize satellite radio (particularly post-merger) has its issues. But I've been considering whether it's worth it to shell out the $15 a month or so to subscribe.

(Right now I'm thinking no. When it comes to my music listening, I'm mostly an iPod and Internet radio (the real stuff, not Pandora) guy. When I do listen to radio OTA, it's most often some form of talk. And, I kind of enjoy having sat radio as a special treat when I occasionally do rent a car.

But, I probably could be sold on a full-time subscription right now.... :D)

I have 4 subs to Sirius.... The bandwidth is deplorable. My music comes from the Radio or the I Phone, mostly.
Terrestrial Radio still has the best overall sound, if quality matters, anymore.
