Giffords Tradgedy

This is a horrible day in Arizona, I am mortified at what happened.

I was in my car, and KTAR had coverage, live, local, up to date.

KFYI had a week old re-run of Rush Limbaugh playing, how ironic.

KFYI, you lost any credibility you may have had as a news station.

Lets hope for the best for Congresswoman Giiffords.

CNN reports she is in surgery now. Hope she makes a recovery. Yes, a black eye for the state that encourages a 1800's mentality on gun ownership. My rants get raves (Hawkeye Pierce-M*A*S*H).

Both Tucson and Phoenix major TV stations are covering the story. Some Phoenix stations are taking feeds from their Tucson counterparts and some are not. Different stories on each one however.

Number of killed and injured varies greatly.
Way too much speculation by news media.
Idiot reporters in hospital press conference asking questions already answered.

Ya know....flipping around the TV, watching all the different coverages from Networks to local reporters covering the Giffords shooting.....I gotta say reporters these days kinda stink........I see a real need for more good Journalism majors...

KFYI now simulcasting Fox News.

What a pathetic station.

How so?

G

Because one station reacted and had local live coverage.

One didn't and barely put up an effort to cover it.

Someone could have woke up Barry Kommando and asked him to go on the air.

Bruce St. James stepped up to the mike this morning, and is down in Tucson now and will be on the air at 7 PM.

At 4 PM KNXV Ch. 15 put the ABC network feed on the air live. David Muir had a brief report of the facts and then talked to
Steve Irwin of KNXV for an on-the-scene-report. Brian Webb also was on scene in Tucson.
At 4:30 Katy Raml continued to report the news concerning the devastation near the Tucson Safeway. Raml interviewed Irwin for some time...
Our prayers go out to the families impacted by this tragedy... :(

Both KFYI and KTAR lost credibility when they swapped they traded Pat for Beck and Mo for Rushbo. And, of course, nothing says "coming together as a community" like KTAR's news team quarterbacking all day and not taking any calls - compared to KFYI's putting callers on the air. Big diff.

Excuse me but unless you're callers have something to do with the story at hand just how is putting Joe Sixpack on the air a worthwhile news endeavor?

It makes a difference when KTAR used to run promos saying, "We need to talk" and then you don't talk with the people, but simply talk at them. After so many hours of coverage, people want to do more than just listen to news coverage; they want to talk about the news.

Re: Giffords Tragedy

BTW, in my rush to post, I misspelled Tragedy, sorry about that, I usually don't do that.

Again, hats of to KTAR, they walked the talk today, KFYI was pathetic.

I'd take KFYI's Terry Gilberg taking listener calls on-air (gee, what a novel idea on talk radio station), albeit only for a couple hours, over hearing one of KTAR's reporters tracking down some kid who knew the shooter in 6th grade P.E. class. I'm sorry, but there's a night and day difference between KTAR's world-class coverage in Chandler (listener and witness calls literally within the hour) and their coverage of this. KTAR is finally - on Sunday morning, nearly 24 hours after the fact - taking listener calls. And, despite this tragedy making worldwide headlines - the people voting in Sudan today probably even know about it - no sign of Femino and Gazwan - or even Pat! - anywhere. That's the real head-scratcher for me. ???

Joe Sixpack airs!

And not only that, but you can share your thoughts with Pat McMahon right now.

Overlooked on the coverage front is the excellent work over at KJZZ. They carried press conferences yesterday and today, and on Saturday were simulcasting on KNAU.
