Gil and...Scott on Pats radio

@Bostonradio tweet

>CBS Boston just made it official : Scott Zolak is named color commentator for Patriots Radio Net on 98.5. He replaces retd Gino Cappelletti

we knew that for sometime now, although i wonder if there going to do a third man again this season?? And if so who?

Was talking to a co-worker, who is a huge Patriots fan, about this... We both agreed it sucked losing Gino as a commentator since he IS a legend and Gino & Gil go obviously well together as they have over the years. However, we both noted that it's just TIME for Gino...he's just gotten old, and sounded a bit out of step the past couple of years. Gil, meanwhile still sounds great, those pipes are still strong as ever. Zo should be a decent replacement as well.

This will likely be Gil Santos' final year on play-by-play.

If that is the case, "The Sports Hub" should have tried to convince Gino Capaletti to stay one more year, which would have allowed an all-new play-by-play team to start together.

As far as Santos' successor, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Dave Goucher will be doing double duty next year: Play-by-play of both the Patriots and the Bruins (with fill-ins for about twelve or so Bruins' games during the pre-season and first half of the NHL season to allow him to call all Patriots' games).

While Goucher would have to be paid some additional per-Diem expenses (especially for Pats' road games), and perhaps a slight salary hike, using him for both the Pats and B's would cost CBS Radio Boston less money than hiring a separate play-by-play man for the Pats' games.

It's better to change the team slowly, not abruptly.

Tanguay for play-by-play is my guess.

Gino just can't do the travel anymore.

It will NOT be Tanguay.

This is more than an educated guess - the new Pats play-by-play man will be Dan Hoard who is currently the Bengals play by play. Dan was the longtime Pawsox radio announcer and his wife Peg Rusconi worked at WBZ-TV for 14 years.

I also would not rule out Dale Arnold getting his Pats gig back.

I doubt there will be a third man... my thought is they brought in Zo last year to help Gino. He was a bit shaky at first but got better as the season progressed. As for Gil's replacement, please, dear god, not Tanguay!

Sad to see Gino go....one of the greatest patriot in team history.

I sure hope that Tanguay doesn't get it. He is brutal doing the HS Super Bowls on Comcast and he did a Celtics game on TV and was that was awful too.

Dave Goucher would be awesome, great play-by-play broadcaster and a great guy in person. However, Hockey starts up right in the middle of the NFL season so that would be difficult to balance.

I know Sean McDonough is a TV guy but I would enjoy if he were to get the gig. Or how about Don Criqui (spelling?) does Notre Dame radio football across the country, does Patriots Pre-season TV...

I think economics may result in Dave Goucher doing the Pats on radio as well as the Bruins.

Yes, there would be around a dozen Bruins' games Goucher would miss during the NFL season, but if the Bruins had a Saturday game in Boston (or a pre-season Saturday game elsewhere in the region, like Hartford or Providence), and the Pats had a Sunday game at home (or let's say, the B';s had a Saturday game atb the New York islanders and the Pats nhad a Sunday game against the New York Jets at the Meadowlands), Goucher could do both.

A couple of years ago, Goucher had to miss a couple of games and I recall that Ryan Johnston (who I believe is with WCAP-980 in Lowell and previously did University of Lowell and Lowell Lock Monsters minor-league hockey games for them) filled in. If still in the area, Johnston could (depending on whether he were to do radio broadcasts of ULowell hockey in 2013-2014) fill-in on those Bruins games Goucher would miss.

Ryan Johnston is a weekend host at 98.5...co-hosts "The Johnston and Flynn Show"

Dan Hoard is the logical choice. Channel 4 would take his wife back in a heartbeat and Dan can also do fill ins on 98.5.

The Kraft's like Don Criqui but he is 72 years old.
