Gil Santos

You know, one of the reasons that I, and most people that actually work in Boston radio, just lurk and do't participate in boards like this, is because of comments that are off the wall as is the case in this thread.

Is Gil going to retire in January? I don't know why don't you call him Monday and ask?

What happens IF Gil reitres? Who cares until he retires? Did anyone call him?

You people are amusing :D

Santos says (though who knows what Pats/CBS will do) that he will continue to do Pats games

>>“I will be back again next season and for the forseeable future,” said Santos, who has been paired with Patriots Hall of Famer Gino Cappelletti for most of the past 25 years. Santos plans to take February off before diving into new opportunities, including voice-over work for commercials and radio work on other CBS stations.

"Radio work on other CBS statins?" Doesn't sound like a "retirement" to me.

In any case, I hear they've named a replacement for Santos... Ryan Seacrest.

Gil Santos is leaving WBZ because of these Snow storms ? I understand . I had to drive from E. Bridgewater to Needham last saturday Night ( During the snow Storm ) . RT 24 and Rt 128 is now my scary Nightmare ( The Highways of snowy Hell ) .

... bumping this topic... I listened to the game on the radio because our cable is messed up (THANKS Comcast, for being so reliable on a day I want to watch 3 games  ) and I hate to say it but Gil was terrible. His voice is strong but he messed up players names, spotting the ball and even missed a touchdown signal. I really wish it wasn't the case, for sentimental reasons, but he didn't do that great a job.

I disagree.
I think Gil does a fantastic job of announcing these games. His voice has to relay everything going on down on that field to radio listeners, and in a fast paced game like football, and with the resources he has at his fingertips, a few flubs is completely forgivable.

I have noticed a decline in Gino's ability to perform as the color man. At the start of yesterdays game he said something to the effect of "Texas has elected to recieve the ball which would give the Patriots the ball to start the second half... so that will give the Patriots the ball at the start of the second half."

Gil is 100% on point, Gino is fading.
