Many of you only know him as a fill-in for Paul Harvey or an on-the-hour radio network newscaster.
But I remember during the 1990s, he had his own national call-in talk show, which ran in the early evening hours. I think it was on CBS Radio.

I brought him up in another thread but felt he deserved his own topic.

He seemed uncomfortably flattered when I told him this, but I think Gil Gross is THE most talented person on radio in the USA today.

He's sure MY favorite Paul Harvey fill-in.
I loved Gill Gross' national call-in evening radio show. It was more general interest, like Tom Snyder or Larry King. It seemed very balanced, though I think Gill wasn't terribly conservative.

Why didn't that show last longer? Why did it end?

Wasn't that GREAT?

Three reasons:
1. Baseball,
2. Basketball,
3. Hockey.

Many AM stations' play-by-play makes getting-on-a-roll tough because consecutive nights are pre-empted.

Yes I think WRKO had him for awhile (Boston). He used to do some talk fill ins as well. And yes thanks
to sports coverage on many stations and a bunch of pre-emptions, it's tough to program a show for
those hours. Though there are some shows for early evening such as Savage.

You also have some stations that put delayed broadcasts on in their early hours. They may have a local
host on earlier in the day, and when 7 pm rolls around it's tape delayed Beck, Ingraham, Hannity,
O'Reilly (example: WTKK Boston), Doyle etc

I don't know why more stations can't do it this way.
Instead of cannibalizing any semblance of local programming, like Crap Ch. and Cox likes to do, why not have a strong local drive-time host, then put the blowhard and liar Hannity on later.
Hannity and O'Reilly are everywhere in the media.
Local broadcasters don't have to be their agents or repeaters.

In Boston WTKK has local hosts Eagan & Braude on 12-3 pm and BOR is delayed till 7 pm. They used to have
Hannity on at 10 pm since they had a local talker (Jay Severin, who's still on) doing pm drive. Other stations
have also delayed the likes of BOR and Hannity till later so they can have local hosts on during the day. Though in some cases these syndie hosts have wound up on smaller stations (like WTTT Boston) who can carry
him live. They don't have the budget to do local hosts.
