Gill, now Schmidt

WKRN seems to be headed in a really interesting direction. First VJs, followed by anchor fruitbasket turnover, then promising Bob Mueller a weekly news show, then hiring Steve Gill as a political analyst, now hiring Brad Schmidt as a full-time entertainment reporter. Don't know if it'll make for great TV, but it sure will be more interesting for us local industry watcher-types than what the other three local news groups have come up with in a long time. What's next... Mark Howard and Big Joe on the sports desk?

Brad Schmidt will now have to do some reporting work rather than ripping off record label press releases. I suppose if his Tennessean article is page three material, his entertainment news would be the second or third story on each newscast.

Will Brad be issued a camera and do his own photography like the vj's? And while I am on the vj thing I have seen 1 former News 2 reporter on Channel 4 and 1 on Channel 5, I wonder how long before they loose all of them?

Brandon Frazior is now at Channel 5, and Lila Marigza is at channel 4.

yeah, I saw Frazier doing a stand-up on WTVF Sunday night.
I didn't realize he'd escaped Murfreesboro Road.

How interesting would it be to see Anne and Bob on 5 after Chris Clark retires? Then Channel 2 can run Hee Haw reruns
from 4-7. That would be like putting Romer 24/7 on SIX <<<They'd have to shut down for a few hours a day because the
ratings #s would exceed the legal market % on 5 and SIX. While on that thought --- CR where have ya bean? I vote for
YOU to take over Channel 5's version of Brad when Harry retires and Bob and Anne and 90% of the good staff from 2
clears the projects of Murf Rd for greener parkways downtown. Oh the humanity...shares of 85%+.

Right now, Channel 2 is benefiting from the publicity of all these moves--perhaps a little. I don't think it will help in the long-term, though.

Very true: but when they actually go over to 2 and watch...ouch.
Anyone wanta get me started on their "faith and values" VJ?

What does the big 98 do when Romer goes on vacation? Do they have someone else fill in and introduce a clip of Romer introducing a clip of House? Or maybe House fills in and introduces a clip of Romer introducing a clip of House. It gets complicated.

When your a true professional like Rome, you have two choices:

A.) You take a vacation and all of WSIX is closed and off the air.

B.) You never take a vacation because your a team player.

I've never heard the station off the air. Now we all know the restless of the story. Maybe it's a
"faith and values" issue Channel 2 should cover. Argh!

BTW --- I noticed a female blonde anchor on the BIG 2 Sunday, but couldn't stick around to find out her name. Who, what, etc.
is she? Any feedback on her vs. Jamie Reese at Channel 5? See, it's the women, not the reporting, that get ratings, right?
And then there's Davis Nolan. Ya gotta "love" him.

I don't think people will go over to 2 and watch, save maybe for a night here and there and I doubt even that often.

The VJ in question wore a microphone and recorded the audio of Matthew Winkler's funeral without permission. He defended it and so did his GM. Sad.

(Winkler was the minister who was murdered a few months ago.)
