Gilligan Island on ME TV

I was unable to see "Gilligan's Island" through Me-TV last night due to the reasons explained in this article:

"WKRG-TV pre-empts Me-TV programming for local football"

This was one of the few times in which I had noticed the station pre-empting programming from Me-TV (the other time involved tennis programming from CBS) and the only time in which I was surprised by such a pre-emption due to the programming guides for the station from TitanTV, TV Guide, and Zap2it not being updated by then to reflect the station's plan to pre-empt the programming.

Yeah, and you missed all the nude scenes!

The last two messages did not fool me since I had seen every episode of the program from start to finish and knew those messages were not true.

What might be the most-asked tv trivia question of all time is "What was Gilligan's first name?" Sherwood Schwartz, creator of Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch, named all the characters but Gilligan's first name was never used in any of the episodes; only his last name was used because it was part of the show's title. The Professor was Roy Hinkley, the Skipper was Jonas Grumby...and Gilligan's first name was Willy.

In Philadelphia, Gilligan's Island originally aired in syndication on 17 WPHL from about 1967 to 1970, then on 48 WKBS from 1971 to 1976, and on 29 WTAF/WTXF from 1976 to about 1989. It then did return to Channel 17 by the 90's. It may have run in the late 90's on WGTW but do not know for sure that one.

In New York City, Gilligan's Island originally aired on 9 WOR TV in syndication from 1967 to 1971. From 1970 to 76 WOR TV evolved away from sitcoms and stayed away till 1984. Gilligan's Island moved to 11 WPIX from 1971 to the spring of 1978. That Fall 5 WNEW TV/WNYW picked Gilligan's Island up and ran it from September of 1978 until about 1992. Channel 5 rested Gilligan half the time from 1983 till the show expired.

In San Francisco, I recall 'Gilligan' airing on KTVU 2 (now Fox) from the '70s until around 1983(it was one of the shows that got dropped in favor of the syndicated cartoons that were big in the mid-80s). I'm not sure if there was a Bay Area affiliate after channel 2 dropped it, but it also had that long run on TBS later in the decade.

Looking at some old TV ads from the '70s, KCOP had Gilligan's Island reruns here locally probably into the early 80s. I do remember KTLA having it in the mid-80s, as part of a weekend afternoon block with the Three Stooges (at noon), The Munsters (1pm), and the Family Film Festival (3pm)...the Castaways rotated with Gidget reruns during certain times of the year (along with one other show whose name escapes me).

KTTV got the reruns by around 1988, pretty much running it seven days a week (at one point, EVERY afternoon at 2pm); by 1990, they were running the remastered prints from Turner (including the colorized first season episodes, which didn't last too long, as they switched to the black & white prints after a couple of cycles). By January 1998, Gilligan reruns left the L.A. airwaves until it was recently added by Me-TV.
