I want to be fair to Ol' Barsky. I am wicked thrilled as a radio lover and fan of barsky that he is back on-air in philly. I am happy that Vinnie is back on air instead of cooling his heels between seasons with the philadelphia barrage lacrosse team. I don't get why either barsky or infinity believes that Kim Douglas is necessary. I love the chemistry of vinnie and barsky, but I get lost in all of Kim's attempts at conversation. She giggles non-stop and uh-huh, and ok and Yeah, that's right. all of these are not good conversation. If WYSP is shooting for guy-talk radio, then Kim has to go before she waters down the show any more. Kim would do well over at q102. where it's ok for some lame bimbo to be on-air announcing forgettable flash-in-the-pan artists. she could be the new female host with Richie rich's 12 noon workout with that lame chick who gives fashion tips and style hints in between the records.

Here is the craziest part that I am not sure has been addressed here yet - they decided on Barsky less than a month ago? If things really went down as quickly as Barsky claims, what does that say about WYSP and Infinity?

This is not a knock on Barsky as much as it is a question of preparedness on Infinity/WYSP's part. They had all that time to fill the slots since Stern announced his move.

I believe it does say more about Barsky than it does about WYSP. There was probably much debate on hiring a person who seems to lack longevity at the stations he has been with. Maybe he has found the right niche at 94.1, but it is still a gamble, as is the entire format.

Look...first, Kim is a total professional, a polished broadcaster and has a lot to add to ANY station or format. How Infinity chooses to employ her considerable talents is between her and Infinity. Second, I've been told that Barsky himself asked her to join him on the show. Paul must feel comfortable with her to do that.

As has been stated on this board, Barsky's show is a "work-in-progress"; it hasn't gelled yet. Her role has yet to be fully-drawn. Knowing Kim as I do, she is a talented woman who will add much to any opportunity or format or station lucky enough to have her on-staff.

Amazing. You have just managed to insult any woman who dares to intrude on male air-space. Most women in Broadcasting are as equally hard-working, talented and motivated as any of us men. I'm personally offended that you would stoop to call them "bimbos", "lame chicks" or any other pejorative.

If that's how you perceive women...then your Mother must be so proud.

And it doesn't seem to be working yet, does it? I keep listening to see if something interesting will happen. I really want to like that station.

So far, the whole station sounds like a total mess. Even the Kidd Chris show seems to be completely out-of-sorts since the change. It sounds like they were moved into a new studio with a bunch of old, broken down equipment. It also sounds like someone hid their things from them. I used to laugh my ass off at that show, even though it was pretty lame and immature.

Well, the thing is... "The Howard Stern Show" is aiming for male listeners and Robin Quivers has been just fine there for years and years and years and years and years. The problem isn't the female presence; it's the female.

Did you guys ever hear Kim's lone shift on New Jersey 101.5? Man, that was... That was, uh... That was some radio! Yes indeedy!

Jim---I think of any of the formats/stations Barsky has been at here in the city, if it's meant to work--it will work on YSP. I think the 11a-3p shift is perfect but more importantly of note is I think Barsky's "shtick" will work better on a talk station.
The thing I DON'T GET and what I think could hurt YSP is that they aren't 100% committed to the talk format. I don't get the music stuff 7p till the a.m. hours. Either you're ROCK or you're TALK. They tried the mixed talk/music format a year or two ago and it didn't work.

I have to agree to an extent. 7:00 p.m. is too early to just switch to music. I think 11:00 is the earliest the music should come out to play.

I understand the desire to see how Hot Talk performs before diving all the way in...but half-assed is not the right way to launch a new radio station!

I think 94.1 Free FM could eventually work in Philly if just about everything about it is completely changed.

hot talk on 94.1

yeah, 1/2 assed is a plan for failure. Infinity isn't 100% committed to the format, they only have 1 foot in the gutter, and the other one still planted in yesterday. when they tried the musical hot talk format before, they used O&A and then added Don & Mike ( about the only ones in radio who still play "secret sound" ). Then some genius, who I hope got fired for doing this, decided to put David Letterman on at 11:30 during the week. they bombed before because they tried to rely on syndication for WYSP's weekly programming. Now they are going to local shows....minus the morning slot. DLR is probably going to tank, then wouldn't it be cool if Our Man Paul Barsky went to AM Drive. for right now though, I really want barsky to do real well, his show is fun to listen to, I dig how they scamed up some daily free lunches just by requesting it on-air. That's The Power of Radio! Barsky, Vinnie and Kim one day babbled about wouldn't it be nice to get some free lunches because they had a hard time being able to get lunch. So with that the next day some dude and his girfriend show up in the air studio from Allentown with monster-mega sandwhiches for the gang.
